SB775 is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Public Safety Committee on 2/7 at 9:30 am in room 534A of the state capitol.

Text of Measure

This bill provides for a temporary (6 month) handgun license, issued by the county sheriff, for anyone who has completed the safety class, filled out the application for a handgun license and has been granted a VPO. If the person wishes to file for a handgun license the fee will be reduced to $25. If at any time the VPO becomes unenforceable, the temporary license becomes invalid.

Amended version passed out of committee today. The amended version removed the reduced price of $25 for a license for someone who had a temporary license due to a VPO.

As much as I hate the current fees, I am glad this was removed. Not really fair for one person to get a reduced rate compared to everyone else.

Why a safety class? Who pays for that?
Safety class is the same one anyone would take to get their handgun license. Basically this bill would give anyone who wanted a handgun license, and had a vpo granted, they could get a temporary one while their app was being processed.

VPO = Victims Protection Order. Example, wife gets a VPO against an abusive husband. Husband is supposed to stay away from wife.
Oh ok, that's what I thought it was. The v threw me, I have always known it just as a po-protective order.
