Did NC pass legislation restricting an employers ability to stop employees from having weapons in their vehicles? I remember hearing about it when the castle doctrine came about but I wasnt sure what ever happened with it, and a search didnt pull up anything significant. Anyone know?

The parking lot provisions were gutted. As of right now a property owner can restrict firearms for employees. So if they say no guns, they can back it up.

Now is the time to hit up your reps and ask them to bring it back. Legislation is introduced in the long session, which is this year.

Already introduced. HB 49

Thanks. I'm WAYYYY out of the loop this year. Real job is going gangbusters and I started a part time business making holsters. Looks like I need to clear some time to write my reps.

I have a list of all the bills that are being introduced. All the gun related bills, and a few more that most people would like also. I'll be glad to post if anyone wants the list.

Terminated because of just such a policy

I hope it comes soon.

:cuss: I was terminated in May 2012 from a well known fortune 500 company here in NC for having my firearm with me (safe and locked in the trunk - I have a CHP) while traveling for the company driving down through Charlotte to SC. I wanted to have it for the drive and the hotel. I had it in the trunk because I had to pick up a co-worker (manager) and drove onto the property to pick him up. They found out a month and a half later and terminated me. The policy they showed me at orientation (dated March 2012) only stated "on property" and the policy they terminated me on included the language "while on travel" (dated December 2011). They also refused unemployment, which I fought and partially won back my benefits. I am currently working contract jobs and interviewing when opportunities arise.

I had only been there 4 months. You know what that looks like on a resume?

how did they find out?

Good question. Since SC, one can't OC, having my CHP, I brought along my hip pack which was snapped to the outside of the lugage. The Manager I picked up in Sanford, commented (more razzed me) about it. 2 hours into the 6 hour drive, we talked about politics and of course gun control, one thing led to another and he put 2 and 2 together. He asked if I had a permit, which I of course said yes. He did not seem to have an issue, not even sure he snitched. He never even mentioned, "you might be in violation." I never knew who my accuser was. In SC, another coworker whom started the same time I did, started talking about guns (he was from GA) and how he should have brought his.

I believe it was the Manager I picked up. He was bucking for a promotion on the backs of fellow coworkers. The guy, knowing I had it in the trunk on the way home, told me to go ahead and bring him to his car, in the parking lot, essentially going on the property in Sanford, NC. He was just as cupable, but was never disciplined. Screw it, for what I do and the state this company was in, I would have left inside six months.

Never ever talk about politics and guns around other employees, unless you are the boss/owner. Your gun was nobodies business until you made it their business. Sorry this happened to you, but loose lips sink ships.

I went through this once when a manager asked me to escort him to the bank. Because I was a avid shooter and former LEO he thought I was armed. Even though I did have one in the car I told him he was mistaken.

Believe me, I learned my lesson. As far as anyone is concerned, I sold all my weapons in a paperless transaction.

And, yes I did tell them the truth when asked, that I did have it with me, because at the time, I did not break any laws, nor did I believe I had violating a company policy. I have looked into a suit, but I needed to find employment more than taking on any legal debt nor did I want my name out there when I am trying to interview.
