    Response from Congressman Wittman

This was a canned email response I got today from the Congressman.

    February 15, 2013

    Mr. Mtbinva
    *********** Ln
    Manassas, VA 20109

    Dear Mr. mtbinva:

Thank you for contacting me in regards to your support for the Second Amendment, gun rights, and your opposition to the President Obama’s Executive Orders and legislative proposals regarding gun reform. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me. I value your views on the important issues facing our Commonwealth and the Nation.

As a gun owner and strong supporter of Second Amendment rights, I believe that the constitutional right to keep and bear arms must be diligently protected. Additionally, I do not support a national gun registry. Such a registry would only put an unnecessary mandate on law-abiding citizens. Gun registration and owner licensing do not help police solve crime as criminals do not register their guns or get licenses.

As a father, a grandfather, and the spouse of a teacher, my heart goes out to all the families affected by the tragedy in Newtown, CT. Events such as the tragedy at Sandy Hook warrant review and careful consideration of what can be done to prevent such tragedies in the future. I am reviewing the proposals set forth by the President however, the President and the Administration must work with Congress, not around Congress, as this debate continues.

Moreover, I believe the right to keep and bear arms is an individually possessed right, as are all rights protected in our Constitution. The Founding Fathers, the Framers of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights could not have been clearer about the nature of the right and the purpose of the Second Amendment. The U.S. Supreme Court has recognized it as an individual right in several landmark cases. We must strongly uphold the Constitution and Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

Please be assured that I am committed to preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals to purchase, possess and use firearms for lawful purposes. I will continue to defend this sacred right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution as a member of the House of Representatives in the 113th Congress.

Thank you again for sharing your views and opinions with me. I am committed to serving you to the best of my abilities. If I can ever be of assistance to you or your family, please do not hesitate to call me at (202) 225-4261 or contact me online at: www.wittman.house.gov.

    Sincerely,
    Robert Wittman
    Member of Congress

A "canned" response from Wittman is a hundred times better than a personally written letter from either Warner or Kaine lying about their positions.

Write him back and ask "what the hell did that mean?"

Note that Wittman was invited to an open carry dinner.

He came, ate with us, and seemed to have a good time.

Edit to add: I got the same response today, as did someone at work.

They all do the same thing. They respond with an answer that basically tries to tell you what their position is, but in a way that tries not to alienate folks who disagree with them. It's what politicians do.

You judge them by how they vote, not by what they write. Wittman is one of our friends, of this I have no doubts.
