Seems there's a growing grassroots movement to "Ban the Box" -- it's unfair to discriminate against ex-felons.
Well, Richmond City Council has responded:

Well, honestly, Kevin also could never get a gun, either. Legally. Is that fair?
Say, why not "ban the box" on 4473s?
And on CHP applications?
And legal OC?
And legal possession?
After all, fair is fair.

With the support of dozens of people who packed into Richmond’s City Council chambers Monday night, the council voted unanimously to eliminate requirements that applicants for many city jobs acknowledge prior felony convictions on initial applications.

“I have never had rights in my life,” said Kevin Hunter, 46, who said he was convicted of a felony when he was 18. “I have found myself resorting back to my old ways at times because I felt it was hopeless. … I’ve never gotten a [strike]gun[/strike] job when I’ve checked the box.”
