Oh, I got that beat.

And here's an incident I personally witnessed:
http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2003...-hotel-cooler/
An FBI agent who fired two rounds into a walk-in cooler at a Strip hotel.
Agent John Hanson III, who was in Las Vegas to attend an accounting seminar, was caught on surveillance cameras firing his .45-caliber handgun (Glock 21) into the walk-in cooler. Hanson has been an instructor at the FBI training academy in Quantico, Va.

Why does the country song Bubba Shot the Jukebox suddenly come to mind? "Reckless, hell! I hit just where I was aimin'"

ETA: (chuckle) I just read the article, including the part about the only victim being a lobster inside the cooler; but, Nevada has no statute against murdering a lobster. HA! I'll bet there is federal law against shooting a lobster--bet there's all sorts of federal laws about lobsters. No way there wasn't a federal law that agent could have been charged with if they wanted.

And let us not forget that these are same guys who want to remove your gun from your holster for your safety. :banghead:

So, now, this makes me, as a father of three little sons, who think cops are cool, wonder if I should try to discourage my sons from ever becoming cops themselves, by pointing out all the stupid stuff some of them do, and the stupid police policies they have to enforce even if they ARE NOT so stupid themselves ??

Though question.

How about this, teach your kids about liberty and how to frame a issue from a liberty centric perspective and then let them figure it out for themselves. LE as a profession is a good profession. There clearly are far more LEAs that are staffed with rights respecting professional peace officers than thugs. Being a cop in a big city PD may be a poor choice. But, starting out is a small town PD or better yet as a deputy sheriff may be a better option. Once they have a resume they can shop around for the "ideal" LEA. Being a fed should be highly discouraged, he may be tasked to come and take away your guns someday.

So any idea why he did this? Did he lose at craps or something?

Okay, I have to ask since I read what people post very carefully,......in what respect did you personally witness this incident? According to the article, the lobster was alone, but it wouldn't be the first time the papers screwed the facts up!

More and more it is to intimidate "the public" into obeying stupid, unnecessary and immoral "laws". But they are "just doing their jobs"...

That doesn't mean there was no one around or watching (surveillance cameras).

quite true. As I said I read carefully and I do have some common sense. The man claims to have personally witnessed the event, I would like to know from what vantage. I should have asked straight up but tried to be cute instead. I don't question his statement but don't see any reason he can't elaborate, do you? For future reference I like to have some feel for the accuracy of statements made.

I guess I could understand your jumping to his defense if I were being ugly but am not sure why you feel, at this point, you need to guess at ways his statement could be factual. Let's let him answer the question before we begin making up answers for him shall we? It is a simple question.

Apparently not too carefully! As you can't seem to figure out I'm the same guy and can't seem to read they were talking about the walk in freeze being empty not the casino. Also, I included a detail the paper didn't report, make/model of firearm ask Agent Hanson what he was carrying. Thanks guys, wrearick proved he can't read. My profile states what I did for a living... more proof wrearick has reading issues.

Okay, my bad. I guess I am not as awake as I think I am at 5 AM. Marco, my appologies. I did not mean to question whether you are a good man or not. I haven't been around as long as the others have and don't have a basis for knowing how accurate your posts are. When someone says they personally witness something I hope for more than an article from the newspaper - they NEVER get it all correct in all aspects. Appreciate the info on the make/model of the gun. Anyone have any idea what the final outcome was?

Quantico might have some info for you. I would imagine since it's a personal discipline matter you wouldn't get far.

Formal Appology

marco wrote Don't know want you think you are entitled to.
Noticed you didn't question statements made by others.. so that leads me to believe you did mean to question my worthiness.

Well, I could name the casino (The Barbary Coast) but that's not included in the news story either.

Rereading from the start (instead of 3-4 seperate updates of the thread) let me state for all to hear that I appologize for questioning your worthiness. It may not have been my intent to do so but it came accross that way and that perception is the reality I need to deal with. I should have chosen my words more carefully and been clearer in what I additonal insight or information I hoped to ellicit. Trying to be cute with the reference to the lobster only made the intent murkier. Again, my sincerest applogies.

Each forum operates a little differently. I am more than willing to go back and edit/remove my earlier posts so that they do not reflect badly upon you for others that come behind later and read the post. Let me know if that will work or if all the follow on posts will still capture the offending comments.

I also didn't want to appear to "hide" my error in judgement so if it is fitting that it remain there for all to see, I will live with that too. Your call. I screwed up and am doing my best to own up to my mistake. It there is something else I can say/do please let me know.

Bill,
No worries.
Apology accepted.
