I cannot believe the amount of homeless just roaming around, I went to McDonald and counted 7 homeless just within 15 min of breakfast. I felt very uneasy and naked without my firearm. I didn't like leaving it in the room safe. The taxi drivers in Vegas are also a complete bunch of idiots, they honk at me for driving legally so they can break the law.

Yeah we should round those homeless up and put them in a camp. How dare we allow people to just roam the streets.

San Francisco city attorney Dennis Herrera announced Monday that he is going to begin an investigation into Rawson Neal Psychiatric Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada following accusations that the hospital has been providing patients with one-way Greyhound tickets to other states.

I know there are homeless even here in Utah, you just don't usually see them except around the shelters. I was just kind of taken back by how many there were.

It's a transient town. Drive on Owens near Las Vegas Blvd. You will see hundreds of homeless folks in this area.

What's the problem?

They're just being released into their natural habitat, where they can be among their own kind in a cage-free environment.

If nothing else, sending lunatics to California provides more job security for the Botox Queen and Governor Moonbeam, though it is kind of like sending coals to Newcastle.

You didn't have to leave your gun in the room safe. I'm guessing that you were thinking that because the hotel didn't allow firearms on the casino floor that you couldn't even walk through on your way to and from your room. This is not true. You have certain rights as a hotel guest, and the right to evesment is one of them. Your hotel room becomes your temporary residence and you must be afforded any rights that you would have had you been on your own property in this state. The hotel can ask that you secure your firearm while using the hotels other facilities.

Why were you without your gun??

I left it in the room safe, because I felt it was safer there than left in my vehicle. I never have maid service unless I'm there anyway. I didn't want to open carry around the various hotels and events we went to, due to the uncertainty of being asked to leave.

Excuse me but being homeless hardly constitutes being a lunatic. As a former "lunatic" i can tell you that not everyone has to live out of their car because of some sort of psychosis

I never said anyone was a lunatic, but I do know desperate people do desperate things.
All in all my trip was good we are planning to go back next year.

The key reasons for homelessness are mental illness and/or drug and alcohol addiction. Ordinarry people whom are not subject to these conditions tend not to become homeless because they are rational and no matter how bad things get they will find a way to provide a home for themselves, even if it's a humble one. For the others who are subject to substance addiction, Their addiction takes over their entire life. Their priorities are to get their next high, not to provide a home for themselves. For those subject to mental illness, they often have drug and alcohol dependence as well that may be the root cause of the mental illness or the only way they have found to cope with it (self medication) that often exaserbates their illness. The vast majority of homeless are not dangerous. I will agree however, that it's impossible to tell which are and are not untill confronted with one that is. You can control your exposure to dangers by avoiding stupid places at stupid times to do stupid things. For those times when you are not doing something stupid, at a stupid place at stupid times when dangerous people find you, we have firearms.

For the record, the Las Vegas Strip at night is not a stupid place at a stupid time. Though people often go there to do stupid things. On the other hand, it's not hard to end up in stupid places like Highland Drive, or Koval Lane because people who don't know better might think these places are just extentions of The Strip. The same is true for Downtown. Freemont street is generaly safe, but it isn't hard to wind up a little farther east of the covered area where you can find yourself in a whole other world of danger and risk. For those of us who have lived in Vegas for any length of time, we're over the "allure" of the Strip and we avoid it at all costs. It's a tourist trap where everything costs at least 3x what it should, and many of the people there are obnoxious and drunk.

My comment was about the People's Republic complaining that we're giving mental patients one-way bus tickets to LA and SF. It not only had nothing to do with homeless folks, I didn't even catch your comment as being related to mine, because I don't associate the one with the other.

For that matter, when I think of people who are insane, my first thought is people like Harry Reid and Mark Kelly -- people who luxuriate in the public eye and love being celebrities, but think nobody will recognize them when they are saying and doing really Really REALLY stupid things. And they have homes.

I sorry but it is no longer PC to refer to them as homeless. Hereafter please use the PC terminology "Free Range People"

I thought it was "Urban Outdoorsmen"
I am reprogramming myself to see patriotically correct whenever I read or hear "PC". Such turns a negative connotation into one more fitting and effectively reverses the table on the we-must-be-PC crowd.

Somehow it does not seem right to disparage those less fortunate than ourselves. Homeless people are homeless because they have no house, no shelter in the traditional sense, and have reached that condition through unfortunate circumstances not entirely of their own free will. That they may bring additional baggage with them is not questioned.

What I do question is the cute colloquialisms referring to them as "free range people" or "urban outdoorsmen". Being homeless is a result of other conditions. It is not a term fitting of our derision. We tell something of ourselves when we express ourselves thus. Homeless individuals are neither a threat to our safety nor well being on the basis of simply being homeless.
