Laws Designed to Prevent Crime

Laws designed to prevent crime don't stop criminals from committing crime; they just make life more difficult for those of us who have no intention commit crimes anyway.

The latest example? Ohio is attempting to pass a law making Internet cafes illegal because some of them are used for Internet gambling. The net result will be continued Internet gambling and less access to the Internet for folks who relied on Internet cafes for access.

Laws should not be designed to prevent crime. They should simply be used to define crimes and to set their punishments.
