"The Siege" was on TV, had to chuckle

So the movie "The Siege" was on TV. For those that don't know what the movie is about, muslim terrorists start killing Americans. Body count hits 620+ dead and martial law is declared on I believe Brooklynn in order to track down up to 20 terrorists (exact count isn't know but that is how many they guess). People start protesting because of martial law and how the gov has taken away their rights. The people stating how they have "no fear" and don't want/need it to deal with the threat. Eventually the bad guys are dealt with.

Given how people acted in the Boston area when the military rolled in for ONE person who only had a body count of 3 with ~170 wounded I just couldn't help but chuckle at how Hollywood portrayed the people would act over martial law given how people of the same area (the New England area) acted when martial law was actually declared for a far smaller event. And while some people might say it wasn't "technically" martial law and that it wasn't "really" the military that carried out the actions in Boston, when that type of weaponry/force is rolled through the streets and people are treated in such a manner as they were...that's martial law.

I agree... Hard to not roll the eyes.

Hasn't martial law actually been declared in a couple of places in the recent years? Hurricane Katrina comes to mind. I wonder how the majority of people reacted then. Seems like a lot of people got upset about it (or maybe along with or maybe primarily the door to door weapon confiscations) but nothing really came of it. Or am I remembering facts not in evidence?

In the movie they sent supposedly over 10k military forces in less than 12hrs once the deployment call was made.
