I was thinking of organizing a movement in Reno (and possibly surrounding area) to promote open carry in public places.

My goal is to:
Raise awareness
Promote a positive/neutral firearm experience to people who have otherwise never had one or only knows what they see on tv.
Promote the sharing of knowledge/safety/Nevada gun laws
Desensitization of the public towards open carry.
Organize meets and OC roadside trash pick ups

My question is would anyone be interested in this? I was thinking of starting a Facebook fan page and going from there. What are your guys' thoughts?
And anything else we

Did, I miss something? Did Reno/Sparks suddenly turn against open carry?

Nop, no problem here in Reno/Sparks!

I open carry everyday with hardly any odd looks, the police leave me alone, and in the last almost 3 years of carrying i have only been asked to leave from about 3 places!

I just looked at how many post the OP had and thought to myself:
1. this person never bothered to read any of the post on here or
2. he is a troll

either way I just ignored this thread

In the past we did some OC trash pickups here in Reno. I like them and I think they help our image.

I also like to hand out pamphlets that have the laws on them for the curious.

Although searching the forum would reveal posts that discuss some our Reno activities that the OP may not be aware of, I didn't get anything out of his post that indicated there was a bad environment for OC or that it was a troll post. It can never hurt to have positive publicity. Especially in times like this where a significant portion of the population is moving to take away our rights. GoDavyGo is a member at NevadaShooters with quite a few posts there.

Yea not a troll just new here. I just thought it would be great to get a little bit of an organized movement together.

I apologize for not searching previous posts I wanted to start something fresh.

I love that Reno/Sparks is very open carry friendly and would just like to keep it that way. Especially well into my generation and beyond. My goal is to make OC commonplace at the events put on here in norther Nevada: farmers markets, street vibrations, hot August nights, rib cook off and many many more. And who knows if it grows maybe we can go as far to organize some road side clean ups and even reward OC friendly business.

I'm working on the FB fan page right now I'll post it here when it is finished.

Ok sounds good, glad to have you aboard here at OCDO.

The only problems I have ever had at any of the Reno/Sparks events was the River Festival, Since they rent the park.

From what I understand when they rent the park it becomes private property in a sense and they can make up there own rules. and one that they do have is no weapons

But in the same event there was another OC member here on the board that had no problem

Thanks for the info! I wonder if the private property thing applies to other events too? Like the rib cook off or hot August nights? Or even farmers markets?

Maybe trying to OC that Barrett wasn't such a hot idea after all . . .

Ha I chuckled

But it was only the Model 99! and its such a small gun and caliber, I dont know what the problem was?

I think it might, but I need to do some research on that to be sure, so don't quote me on it.

But I have never had a problem with it, and have been to all the events mentioned above several times along with street vibrations and the forth of july sparks, the only problem was when i went into the open air pavilion at harrahs to get something to eat during one of the events I was asked to leave the pavilion

I feel so ignored. Guess no one eats out in Reno. :p

Sorry brother didn't mean to give you the cold shoulder! I appreciate the suggestion. The climate we have here in the biggest little city is one of festival we literally close downtown for events I feel our effort would be better spent on these. But I'm all for grabbing a burger!

Personally I do not like picking up others trash, would prefer a BBQ or picnic.
We have a facebook page, mike is the admin I believe-I would have to login to FB to post it here, I'll do it later tonight/tomorrow.

I think we need more OC events in Reno, especially DMV and Library, I have been told to leave main library due to OC.

I never see OC in Reno/Sparks, but I live in Gerlach and don't get down to often, I may be moving back this summer though.

I tend to eat in casino's while in town-no OC in most of them.
I'm on the wheatbelly/paleo diet and there isn't much for me to eat out there in restaurants really.
I miss the convenience though...

That gunburger thing looks like a good idea

Hello everyone! I've been working on a map to mark businesses as either friendly or not friendly towards Open Carry. I included and emphasized on "gun free zones" this map is far from completion and will continue to grow with your help. If you know of any businesses in the Reno/Sparks area that you would like to see added to this map please let me know!

In the coming months I'll be working on the surrounding area (Tahoe, Fernley, Carson) and will be continually updating the Reno/Sparks area.

Thank you for all the support I've received on this project so far! And remember to Like us on Facebook! RENO OPEN CARRY
