Yet few Americans are aware of the dramatic drop, and more than half believe gun crime has risen, according to a newly released survey by the Pew Research Center. http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/n...,3022693.storyhttp://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2013/...ublic-unaware/Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

This is pretty big, and I hope it gets out more, so people are more aware of the real statistics.
I actually heard about this earlier today on WETA FM.
The fact that they aired it suprises me for two reasons: 1. It's a public radio station and 2. It's based in the very anti-2A District of Columbia. I listen to it via the internet - it's a good classical radio station.
This is the power of a 24/7 news cycle set to full propaganda mode.
http://johnrlott.blogspot.com/2013/0...-it.html#linksFor someone deeply involved in the data, it can be surprising to see the gap between what is happening and people's perceptions. Surely the media has a big effect.
Let's not ignore the fact that this story is being reported from the LA Times which was, as of the last time I checked, part of the liberal mainstream media.
They are a legitimate source of information. Responsible people just verify everything that they say. Sheep just accept it all.
