a new perspective on crime drama

I was watching an episode of Criminal Minds, where a killer rigs his taxi to trap & sleepy-gas (female) passengers so he can kill & make candles out of them.

Watching the latest victim being frantic as the gas starts filling the passenger area, I thought to myself, "Too bad this is set in California. She could shoot out the window, open the door by reaching through, & be safe."
(On reflection, she could also climb out the window.)

Guess that's why hacker-slasher type films aren't set in places like TX, UT, or AZ.
There'd be maybe 15min of buildup as the criminal sets & springs his trap, then he'd be dead.

Sort of like the short-lived Nike commercial (which I think is great & would love to still have on the air) where a Jason-type character goes after a woman... who simply outruns him.
