One more national chain that doesn't want our money.
Staples has refused to let a gun shop participate in their advertising sweepstakes.

“We’re sorry, but your small business entry into the Staples PUSH It Forward Contest has been rejected for the following reason(s): Entry contains content that promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing); promotes any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous; promotes any particular political agenda or message; is obscene or offensive; or endorses any form of hate or hate group.”

So long as those restrictions were in place when the contest was first announced, I see no problem except the gun store guys did not read the rules or thought trhew rules did not apply to them.

Saying that Staples is equating gun shops with illegal drugs is going way overboard. A more accurate statement would be one to the effect that Staples not only does not support/condone illegal stuff, they are prejudiced against certain products/industries because the find them "icky".

If I was a national corporation running some sort of contest I'd make Rule #1 read: No idiots allowed to enter this contest. Then I could pick and choose who to call an idiot. (I used to write down the names of all the people and businesses that I thought were, for any reasaon, idiots. I found it is easier to write down the names of those that are not - keeps the list short and sweet.)

stay safe.

I like the comment relating Staples to the child porn industry! I'll be sure to mention that to them in my letter.

Just before Christmas another company ran a small business promotion. The wording is almost identical. I wonder if this isn't some 3rd party entity doing this on behalf of Staples.

Very probably so. Between the various laws involved and the sheer time/energy needed to do something like that, it makes sense to outsource it.

Read the fine print. It should tell you all you want to know.

stay safe.
