Yep, less than a month to go and things are being prepped now. The weather was really great last year and it helped forty five or so armed people to attend . With the collateral family members we were quite a group.
We are getting the invites for "guest speakers" and media to attend out earlier this year. We are expecting a bit of help from Project Childsafe with a bunch of weapon locks to pass out again.

Super stoked for this event! Had to work last year, but the schedule is clear for this years event. Looking forward to meet some of the active members of this forum, as mostly I'm just a lurker here.

OCinBlain, glad you can make it this year.

The event sched is very flexible.
SAFETY WILL BE PARAMOUNT!
Set ups will begin at about ten.
ALL pets must be on a leash after ten am.
Info table will be up all day.
Speakers start at two pm.
Fishing is good.
Remember this is a Family event.

The following will be needed for the collective group.

1. Ice
2. soda/water.
3. Chips,pretzels, snack stuff.
4. condiments.
5. Any foodstuff you wish to bring.
6. Paper plates.
7. plastic utensils....spork and foons
8. Trash bags.

NO HANDLING OF FIREARMS IN THE PARK!! Keep it in the holster, do not take it out to show someone.
Everyone is a safety officer at this event. If an unsafe act is observed, say something.
Bellingham PD will have a presence. We were observed from across the park last year and had several BPD drive bys. I expect a repeat performance this year. We still have the same deputy chief (Hi Flo, I know you are reading this) and she has an unfounded fear of Armed Citizens in large groups. Only time and our exemplary performance as Citizens will ease her fears.

This is how we will become "normal" again. Wear a weapon as you would any other day. We want the general population to see us as normal everyday Folks. One of our goals as Open Carriers is to educate and allay any fears the gen pop has about us.

PICNIC TIME AGAIN
Third time at this location. By the By, this was the location of the first OC/BPD incident and the location of the last OC/BPD incident, three years later.

Speaking of picnic supplys.............we could use

A couple bags of charcoal

chips

anything you wish to throw on the grill

give aways for kids

Yourself and your family

Come on over/up/down or whatever and enjoy Armed Company.

Successful Day

Well it started off slow but picked up. The weather was great and police presence was nil. Everyone had a GREAT time.
Rob Apgood spoke to the group and he was well received. Many people commented on the experiences he has had and commented on his passion.
The park was VERY crowded on sunday and we might reconsider the day for next years picnic.
Kudos to Boomboy for tackling the burger station again this year.
The "Open Carry Coffee Cup of Excellence" was presented to Robert Apgood (the junior) for the longest distance traveled. There were not as many folks this year, but we still had about thirty-five adults with a small group of children.

The best event of the day was the arrival of an actual Unicorn. His name is Felix and When he saw us, he had to join in. He has been OCing in bellingham for several years and had no idea OCDO was out there or that others were doing it in the neighborhood. Felix and his family spent the day with us and joined us at the Pride festival to help with the OC table.

Please post photos if you have them.
