I switched to google chrome and it solved all those problems. Otherwise you have to change setting in IE.

No, take it back.
I'm not sure how you got a computer with Win 98 on it, that OS hasn't been marketed for at least 10 years!

Switch to Firefox or Chrome. Saves the hassle of using a junk web browser like internet explorer.

Are really saying you bought a computer that had win98 on it?

Take it back and get a computer that has a newer operating system. That computer was obsolete years and years ago and modern software will not work on it.

Remember the tale of how when you drive a car off the lot it losses a chunk of its value. Well, your computer had no value when you bought it and certainly has none when you took it home.

For $350-400 you can get a basic new computer that was designed this century.

Do your homework before you buy.

Can't return it? Put DOS 6.11 on it .. it will work just fine

Pentium B960 launched 4Q 2011. If you like the hardware then buy whatever OS and install it. I escaped from windows about three months ago to linux Fedora and am quite pleased - won't be going back. Fedora is free!

I was thinking of suggesting Linux with a dual boot. I have not used Linux in some time, I once was big on Linux, but it is not for the non computer savvy. Unless it has been cleared up there are some, or at least one streaming media that will not work on Linux. Netflix has never made itself available to streaming outside of microsoft, and mobile apps. Netflix will work on Windows 8. I am not sure about Hulu or Crackle if they will run on Linux.

One of the problems with W8 it is recognized as mobile with many applications, and for some reason some content is denied mobile. We run several android tablets, plus I have a netbook that runs android. It does most things fair, but still runs into that problem of being recognized as mobile.

I think Fedora is the free version of Red Hat. So it should be good.

OP if you have space keep your W8 and use it when you need it. But Linux, if you can master it, does it better, and faster.

Linux mint is a very good distro/Os for beginners. It's where I started, and its based off Ubuntu, so you get all the bells and whistles of that.

Personally ATM I'm using Arch. I like a rolling release cycle, and having the power to build my Os from the ground up is nice, and a good learning experience.

Per the OP not being computer savvy, I would strongly recommend AGAINST Linux of any flavor. I personally run a dual-boot of Ubuntu and Sabayon, just because Ubuntu is extremely stable and Sabayon is everything but. I like the constant freshness and anti-commercialism of Sabayon, but every so often I do a kernel update and poof! my system is deader than a doornail.

Linux is only for the computer-literate. Even I sometimes struggle with it, and I used to make a living fixing Windows.

My personal recommendation is to hire a computer guy and have him erase that stupid, useless, idiotic Windows 8, and then have him install Windows 7. It'll probably cost you a bit, but your other option is to return that computer and exchange it for one with windows 7. I use 7 at work, and it's a pretty smooth, fast, and reliable operating system.

I've seen and read a buncha stuff on Windows 8, and it looks like a totally juvenile, regressive, POS operating system. Computers aren't tablets, or phones, or little gadgets for children. They are supposed to be productive machines, and Win8 appears to be anything but.

Get Windows 7, you'll be much happier.
