THE DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED

This is really not an "official event" per say. But myself and a few others will be attending the coast guard fest Tuesday July 30th. I will be wearing my MOC gear and have a pocket full of tri-folds and this is an open invitation for anyone interested in checking out the festivities to come and join us. I will post a more exact meeting time and place as the date gets a little closer. I was thinking mid afternoon, thoughts?

Yes, OC.

Sorry for the date change already. The 4th is really just the day they break down and I can't make another weekend day but Tuesday has a lot of cool stuff going on.

:(

Likely not going to make this day, I will probably be wandering around GH the first Sat or Sun though. Anyone who can't make it on Tuesday is welcome to join me then.

Re: Coast Guard Festival

Having been to the festival and having been outside of the ships moored at the CG station, I believe there is a prominent sign indicating that firearms are prohibited.

I would also suggest that you exercise extreme caution anywhere near the channel west of the city park and east of the state park, especially open carrying. Much of that area is under the control of the US Corp Of Engineers and therefore prohibits the possession of firearms. That area IS NOT POSTED!!

Here is an update to a proposed change last spring... also briefly explains the law:

If the captain gives you permission it would be legal. Otherwise most likely no.

Stay informed about MOC events in your area http://miopencarry.org/updates

since the coast guard is DHS and a federal agency, i wouldn't carry a firearm anywhere near it. even with permission. a captain of a ship still doesn't have the authority to grant you permission to break federal law.
