I'd like to go for a visit to D.C. since I haven't been in almost 20 years. I know I cannot carry at all within D.C. but I don't want to make 99% of the trip unarmed. Are there any shops in the area that might store my weapon while I'm there? What do others do? It's times like these when we need a national carry law so we can at least secure them in our vehicles.

You could leave it with a friend thst lives in free'er America if you have one that lives in NoVA.
You could leave it secured in your vehicle and use the metro to get in and out of DC.
You could do like a lot of us and just avoid DC, the monuments are still there as are the scum that call DC home.

maryland isnt much different

Isnt maryland about the same? put a shotgun in the trunk and ammo in the dash because their handgun laws do not apply to long guns but that brings in hunting laws and game wardens? So no way to visit maryland armed from out of state?

There are lots of hardware stores in and around DC. They sell screwdrivers, hammers, and sticky electrical tape (do not get the smooth stuff).

Last time I was in DC Clinton was in the White House. They had metal detectors at almost every museum as well as government building and one restaurant in Adams Morgan whose name I do not recall. Even the smallest Swiss Army Knives were verboten, but my "tools" in my el cheapo backpack along with a light jacket, ball cap, and roll of duct tape never got a second glance.

stay safe.
