New to Forum OC question

I have been in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia most of my life. And been gun enthusiast most of my life as well. Now I have the privilege to live in Pahrump and I am loving it. I have applied for my CC permit, however I want to know if you guys still OC with out a CC permit? I see lots of folks OC in Pahrump, but I assume they have a CC as well.

If you dont have a CC what do you do when OC in the car? put the pistol on the dash?

OC is not illegal.

OC does not require having a CC permit.

Cars do not conceal a firearm, whether it is on your person or not.

Keep a firearm in your car visible, concealed, locked, unlocked, cased, uncased, or however you wish... the only firearm-in-the-car law we have is that all rifles have to be unloaded... pistols can be loaded though

Not entirely true about the rifle...it can be loaded just not have one in the chamber. Just an FYI.

I live in Pahrump also, for over 20 years. Here is a list of where I open carry. Everywhere. Only a few no carry facilities, not on school property, in the courthouse, Sheriff Station, post office that is about it. The Pahrump DMV is posted however; the Nevada Revised Statue (NRS) they refer to in the posting only refers to concealed firearms. I have open carried in the DMV many times. If you are a legal firearm owner, you are legal to open carry. As stated no permit.

Adding to it is ok in a vehicle, loaded full mag cocked and locked ready to go, with extra mags and setting on top of a case of ammo is legal. Under the seat, in the glove box, in the center box, all legal in NV keeping in mind school property is a no gun zone. As strange as it may seem long guns can have a full mag however not one in the chamber while in a vehicle. There is no requirement to tell an officer when stopped that you are armed.

I do not go into the local casinos because they do not allow firearms. Not a law just their rules. There has been the rare occasion of me being in a casino with family that is when the CCW comes in handy. CCing is still breaking most casino rules however out of sight out of mind. If they see someone with a firearm, they will ask the person to leave and come back without it. The one small casino I have open carried in is Irene’s. They do have a sign saying no concealed firearm however never said a word about my full size open carried firearm. With that said Las Vegas open carry is almost as a nonissue as in Pahrump. I am OCing in Las Vegas all the time. It may take a while to kick the years of anti gun carrying brain washing you received while in Comifornia.

One quick note: Metal detectors in public buildings only apply to CC. Though many public buildings will send you on your way, technically there is no law against OC in them. Took about a year of 'negotiation' but Henderson finally relented and no longer tries to bar you from OC in City buildings. Other jurisdictions will threaten you with trespass for OC in their buildings if you don't leave.

One you glossed over. You may not conceal on your person in the car without a CCW.

That's another one that state laws says can only bar concealed carry, not open carry, but like most local cop shops, they don't care about laws that apply to them, only about laws that apply to us.

it takes a little getting used to but you can OC sans permit.
Often people think I'm a cop when I OC, I've tried letting my hair grow long and dressing sloppy but people still think I'm a cop.
(its genetic, my late dad was a cop and my brother is a cop back east )

Most folks do not even notice OC.

I live in a small town that has quite a bit of gossip, and tons of liberal idiots due to the burningman factor, I have faced bigotry and lost friendships because I open carry.
Basically, I had let my ccw expire, not realizing that you need to requal at least 3 months b4 hand ( at least in Washoe County ) and while I was waiting for the CCW to come in the mail I OC'd while I was "the new guy in town" and small minded small town folks frowned.

I OC half of the time and CC for convenience sake if I'm in a hurry - many casino's where you might need to use the restroom or eat cheap on the go do not like OC and they can ask you to leave.

small town too.
I've had bartenders tell me that OC is illegal where alcohol is served but when I ask them to actually cite NRS they do not know what the NRS is.
You get tired of it after awhile.

If you have not done so, at the top of Nevada form checkout the Sticky open carry Pamphlet Print it out you can show the naysayers. Felid Maximus has done a great job trying to keep up with the changes.

Vegassteve, What is the best way to have my firearm in my truck when i visit Vegas? I live in S. Utah and have family there in Vegas and go shopping w/ the wife. I do have CCW for Utah witch is not recognized in Nevada.

As long as you are not concealing on your person, you may have it anywhere within the vehicle, visible or not.

In the console right next to you, fully loaded, is just fine.
