Gun Advocates Have Started Descending on Starbucks En Masse for Some Reason

There's an interesting showdown that involves a volatile combination: gun advocates, upset moms and caffeine.....

The article makes it sound like no one open carry's in South Dakota. I was there last summer when it was 104 out during the day. I saw lot of people open carry in Rapid City and Deadwood. I talked to a few of them and they all said the same thing. It is too hot not to open carry and no one cares. I did a bit of open carry myself and never had a single second look. I am surprised to see the issue come up when from what I saw it is a common sight

I was in SD a few days ago and did not have a problem OCing, no one even mentioned it nor did anyone seem to pay any attention to my firearm same with ND, MN, IA, WY, MT, I did have to disarm in Illinois but that was it.
Throw me to the wolves and I will come back leading the pack.

    They must read our forum.
"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth (and) keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. South Dakota has some interesting views on gun possession. For example, it is unlawful to OC or CC in SD when on a motorcycle.
    Rev. Robert Apgood, Esq.

    A right cannot be lost by exercising it. McDonald v. Chicago, 561 U.S. 3025, 130 S. Ct. 3020, 3021, 177 L. Ed. 2d 894 (2010) (citing Near v. Minn., 283 U.S. 697 (1931)).

Although IAAL, anything I say here is not legal advice. No conversations we may have privately or otherwise in this forum constitute the formation of an attorney-client relationship, and are not intended to do so.

If you have an accepted carry permit you can carry on a MC in SD.

    32-20-6.6
No person, other than a law enforcement officer or conservation officer, or any person on the person's own land or land leased by the person, may operate or ride on any motorcycle or off-road vehicle with any firearm in the person's possession unless the firearm is completely unloaded and within a carrying case which encloses the entire firearm. However, this section does not apply to any person who is carrying a pistol and possesses a permit to carry a concealed pistol issued pursuant to chapter 23-7. This section does not apply to any person who holds a permit issued pursuant to 41-8-37 while engaged in hunting from an off-road vehicle in accordance with the provisions of the permit. This section shall be enforced by all law enforcement officers including conservation officers. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor

Anything I post may be my opinion and not the law... you are responsible to do your own verification.

Blackstone (1753-1765) maintains that "the law holds that it is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer."

OC'd at the Clearview Starbucks on the way to work this morning, as I do frequently. One pregnant mom with toddler in stroller, and two women accompanying her.

Staff was their usual friendly self and no one even gave me a sideways look.

    As it should be.

Yep. Thanks for pointing that out. The law changed since I last checked for a ride to Sturgis.
