Silver Springs Family Dollar carry issues

At 1 p.m. today I went into the above named store for smokes and soda.

    I was OC.

Set my soda on the counter, and the following conversation ensued:

Cashier: "Are you law enforcement or carry a badge?"

Me: "No ma'am, just a law abiding citizen."

Cashier: "Ah I see. Well, we don't allow firearms in the store unless you're in law enforcement."

Me: "I'll keep that in mind for next time."

    (Get smokes)

Cashier: "There's even a sign at the door."

Me: "Is this Corporate policy or store?"

    Cashier: "It's Corporate."

    Me: "Have a nice day."

    Cashier: "You too."

    Her nametag read as Heather.

No signs anywhere on or near any door.

Nothing seen on thier site about firearms.

Can you guess who's getting an e-mail this evening when I get home?

ETA: I have OC'ed in there before issue.

I carry in Family Dollar near my house several times a week with never an issue. There is no sign on the door.

This is why Heather probably learned nothing from the encounter.

Same here. I was on the road as I was typing that, and should have typed "never an issue".

    This is true.

I will admit that i was caught unaware with her opening salvo, having shopped there many times while OC with no problems.

Either way, email going out in just a little bit.

I would almost bet that it's an employee policy, not a customer policy.

I've OC'd in both of the Dollar Stores Family and General., in Silver Springs. Never had an issue.

    Update:

Just got off the phone with Corporate HR. The gentleman I spoke with was named Gary.

I related to him Sundays events, and informed him that NV basically has no prohibition against OC, with few exceptions.

He agreed that the events should never have happened, and there is no policy against customers carrying. Employees, Contractors, vendors and visitors are a different story.

He confirmed his info with LP while I was on the phone.

He did take the store number and location, allegedly LP, the Regional Vice President, and the District Manager to contact the store for retraining.

Thanks for the update. Just as I suspected. I'll have to stop by this week.

Good job of correcting another confused company employee.

No problem. Sounds like she was confusing the Employee Handbook for an Everybody Handbook.

Thanks. This was a trial-by-fire for me. It was my first time having to do this, so all I had to fall back on for procedure was what others had written about on here.

I hope there isn't a next time, but if there is I'll be much more confident at the outset.

You'd be surprised, or maybe not, how many instances like this, where the employee is applying the employee handbook policy on employee behavior in the work place with customers.

Usually they are already antis and having just read it in the handbook, they are gonna stand up to some law abiding citizen carrying a handgun. I bet they even bragged about it to their buddies when they got off work. Then that guy goes and does it. It spreads like a virus.

Indeed it does spread, just as accurately as the old game of "Telephone", sometimes was also called "Grapevine".
