I read and watched a lot of "engagements" between LEO's and people carrying a long gun. At first I was convinced I liked this activity because it showed those bastards "we" know what we are doing, we have rights. But, when a long gun is worn inside a business that is carry friendly I now think they are putting our cause in a bad light.
I open carry a 1911 everywhere I go and I have always said my purpose is the educate not to scare, promote my 2nd Amendment right, not to scare and beyond all put myself in a good light with the general public, not to scare. Have people called store security when I was carrying of course, did security every do anything, no.
Please share your thoughts on long gun open carry.

Please share your thoughts on long gun open carry.

Long gun open carry discussions on this site are a TOS violation.

Various reasons such as no trigger guard such as you have with a pistol and holster are cited as primary differences that alter the safety of doing long gun carry.

This site does not oppose long gun carry, it simply eliminates it from discussions as that is not the sites focus, pistol open carry is all that is desired for open discussions, there are sites for open carry of rifle discussion, please take those there.

FYI this is a heads up from a long time user of the site, a mod will indeed delete the entire topic and post should you not comply with the TOS.

Thanks for the heads up, I guess I belong to too many forums to remember the rules for all.

I truly enjoy my long guns - several are EBR according to some; however, the discussion of carrying them is off-topic here - see following:

Forum Rules

  • (14) LONG GUN CARRY IS OFF-TOPIC: This web site is focused on the right to openly carry properly holstered handguns in daily American life. We do NOT promote the carry of long guns. Long guns are great! OCDO co-founders John & Mike and most of the members of this forum own at least one long gun - but due to urban area issues of muzzle control, lack of trigger guard coverage, and the fact that the long gun carry issue distracts from our main mission to promote the open carry of handguns in daily life, we will leave long gun carry activism in the capable hands of the future founders of web sites about long gun carry. Exception: This rule does NOT apply to discussions about long gun carry in jurisdictions which ban handgun carry but not long gun carry and thus require long gun carry as a matter of public policy.

No brush off intended

The OP, logunowner, also indicated he carries a 1911 - great choice :)

We would like to see him continue on OCDO and help to promote and defend the right to open carry handguns as we go about our normal everyday lives. IMO this is THE premier site to accomplish that.

Move it to the TX forum to comply with the TOS:
" Exception: This rule does NOT apply to discussions about long gun carry in jurisdictions which ban handgun carry but not long gun carry and thus require long gun carry as a matter of public policy."

That would hardly be justified. The OP is from MO, so it is in the correct sub-forum.

But his main post is curiosity about long gun open carry, not it's carry in MO, so if asked in the TX forum it could be answered without violating site rules.

He posted in the MO sub-forum. He lives in MO. Any answer regarding Texas laws would have no validity, no bearing on his question(s).

Decision made it - will stay were it is.
