So, I tried to call my Senators and Congressman to express my opinion on the current "crisis," that opinion being "Shut 'er down!"
Interesting how the various offices I contacted reacted:
Senator Portman. Waited on hold for the operator for about thirty minutes. Was transferred to the Senator's office. Got voicemail. Left a message.
Congressman Turner. Waited on hold for the operator for about thirty minutes. Was transferred to Congressman Thompson's office. Yes. Congressman Thompson. Answered by a staffer. She could not transfer me. Was not the least bit interested in taking a comment to pass back to the operators about being careful. Was even less interested in taking a comment from me to her boss about how she treats a member of the People.
Congressman Turner. Waited on hold for the operator for about thirty minutes. Was transferred to the Congressman's office. Yes. Congressman Turner. Got his voicemail. Listened to his voice explain his office hours and how to leave a message. Got the mailbox-is-full message.
Senator Brown. Screw it. I ain't waiting another thirty minutes for God knows what. He's gonna vote to fund anything and everything anyway.
Guys, the power comes from the People, through the States, to you. Not vice versa. Yes, I may not be in your district, Mr. Thompson, however you are not just beholding to your constituents at the ballot box; you are answerable to ALL the People. The government of which you are a part serves at the pleasure of the American People. Read the damned document that begins, "When in the course of human events...," and cogitate what our Founders are trying to communicate to King George--and to YOU! Before it is too late, for God's sake, before it is too late.
