Question regarding signs.

I wad wondering if I could get some thoughts from the people who have been OCing alot longer than I have.

My question is about signs, the mall I go to every so often doe not have the normal gun buster signs, instead underneath the store hours near the bottom half are the words "No weapons" That is all, I was just wondering how you guys would take that and what some of you might do. I am no looking to cause a huge commotion, but just does not seem like a legal sign to me, as much as those signs are legal.

Yeah. I don't go to one store in town because I was told my gun makes people nervous....Not having it makes me nervous so I shop elsewhere.

The "No Weapons" sign may or may not have the force of law. You will need to check your state laws to see what the answer to it is.

If it does not have the force of law the only thing they can do is ask you to leave (under direct or implied threat of being charged with trespassing).

Most folks just add places to their list of where they do not spend money. The internet offers some good pricing on stuff that most mall shops offer and the added bonus of not putting yourself in the middle of a crowd of people makes it even more attractive.

In Missouri, you are NOT in violation of any law if you are discovered to be CCing in a posted building. Since the building is private property, they have the right to ask you to leave. If you refuse, which would be silly, they will call the police and the police will escort you out of the building and give you a ticket for trespassing and you will lose your CCW for a few months. OCing in a posted building would be a losing proposition.

Yeah, I am going to look into the sign bit. Because I always look for the normal sign and almost walked in with it on my side. Had I not checked the store hours I would never have seen it.

Although I prefer to OC, I MIGHT CC if what I left home with, will work. BUT, I would never go back to the store. I say this thinking of Christmas. A great gift may only be sold in that store. Plus, I doubt there would be metal detectors!

Mention was made regarding a site where stores can be marked as gun unfriendly, etc. I don't have the address on my iPad, although I used to frequent it, years ago.

I would appreciate the link if anyone has it.

What if the previous post is incorrect? The poster noted to chk the state's law...

Also, it could be another defense ..

Juries are pretty stupid .. they see a "no gun" sign and they'll assume its good, even if its not.

In MO, the 'No-Guns' sign has to meet certain criteria; this is to inform CCWs. There is no requirement for OC. My humble opinion is to avoid those businesses with any signs when OCing, if you ignore the sign and enter, and then asked to leave, I'd leave. JMHO.

I OC because I want the "sign" on my side making it clear I support gun rights and am not an easy victim.

When someone puts up a sign that defines that they do not support that i respect it and do not enter. I do NOT conduct business with anti-gun companies ever so that I may assure my dollars do not go to oppose my own views.

I never recommend anyone even bother worrying about a sign, see it, leave and dont give them your money.

FYI it is REALLY hard to do as there are a lot of anti gun companies out there.

I'm going to try and get a picture of it later today, but what I'm starting to see are signs posted on strip mall properties. Not on the actual store fronts, but as you drive onto the property/parking lots from the public roads. These signs generally are huge, but have paragraphs worth of rules printed on them so that to actually be able to read them you'd have to come to a full and complete stop and impede the flow of traffic for several minutes. After perusing several bullet points, generally a dozen or more, there will be one buried in there pertaining to the prohibition of weapons (knives or firearms) anywhere on the property. These signs are deliberately placed where no one is able to read them, as they are driving past at 15-25mph, and I think are designed to keep people ignorant of the property owner's wishes until such time as they are having you arrested and are pressing charges. Has anyone else seen or noticed signs like this lately? The main offender I'm seeing regularly is the strip mall across 39th Street from the Independence Center in Independence, MO that houses the Best Buy, Barnes and Noble, and Office Max.

Sorry, took a while to go back over there... anyways, here's the sign I promised. This one was on a brick pillar outside of Best Buy, but it's identical to the ones as you drive in and out of the parking lot, just figured it was safer than stopping in the middle of an intersection. :p

The individual businesses, whether "gun friendly" or not the issue. It is the Commons" owners that posted the signs. Contact them and ask them if their policy conflicts with one of the stores policy. The call the stores and tell them that their policy is subordinate to the Commons policy. or contact the store first and the Commons second. Either way, tell every store there that they will be placed on a boycott list as a result of the Commons policy.

See a sign, any type of sign, boycott them and inform that business that they are being boycotted.

I don't encourage shopping at posted places, but that sign is clearly not compliant with the law.

See #15 here. The sign is over the 11x14" requirement, but the letters are definitely not 1" tall.
