    Lightbulb Semi-Current Pistol Permit Statistics

    THRU 7/9/2013

Total number of pistol permits: 191,400
Total number of blue cards: 1,558
Total number of gold cards: 291
Total number of Eligibility Cert: 67
Total number of Ammo Cert: 1
Total number of Long Gun Cert: 0

Total number of weapons permits: 193,316

Our population is 3.59 million, but after you take out the ages 1-21, it is approximately 2.65 million. When we exclude convicted felons, we get down to around 2.5 million people. Subtract an estimated 54,000 illegal immigrants and we have about 2.45 million eligible people. Of course, this is not perfect or complete, the number has to be much smaller, probably more near 2 million when we factor in misdemeanors and drug possession disqualifiers, and there is no way to factor in the arbitrary 'suitability' criteria of the state. This leaves us with a confident 8% - 10% of the population has a pistol permit in Connecticut. That means 1 in 10 people in Connecticut, who are eligible have their pistol permits. That is very significant.

An interesting tidbit: Convicted felons number 145,950. That is close to the number of permit holders in Connecticut.

Unless I am mistaken, the blue card is for security guards and the gold card is for bail enforcement.
