SW filight .. pilot noted to passangers: we're going down(happy ending) so its funny

Wills is a nurse and tried helping the first-time flier seated next to her who was clutching her chest.

First and LAST time flyer I assume ... lol

I have been bounced around so many plane cabins with those cheap (lowest bid) military aircraft ... it does not bother me anymore. At least your in a proper seat .... quit complaining.

I had one pilot of a KC-135 say to me, "we're going to crash land". Knowing that these planes are not unknown for doing that (due to age) I just said .. OK, get a get a good view in the cockpit? It wasn't the first time a pilot told me "we're going down" .. its a joke some like to play..had 4 or 5 crew members tell me this. Sometimes not a joke though .. about 25% of the planes I took pics of went splat since I took the pics.

In WWII the survival rate for a B17 crew was not something to hope on....at least not in the beginning of the war before we had air superiority and fighter escorts that could cover them. I knew several B17 crew members who survived the war ~ they generally did not people complaining about little inconveniences in life .. all were a riot to speak to... "Yeah, Johnny had his legs blown clean off! Got my uniform dirty." like its nothing.

Narcissistic injury. Life experience or a philosophical education should teach you how to face death, these people apparently didn't have either. So of course it's the pilots fault for making them confront the reality that they're mortal without the requisite toolset to deal with it. They can't be complaining about actual injury or death since they're not injured or dead so it follows that they're complaining about the idea, abstractly, that injury and death are things that can happen to them. How dare someone make that idea visceral and obvious.

Are the passengers angry that the event did not materialize?

If you like your flight, you can keep your flight. It's won't be going down.

The title of the thread contained "happy ending". I thought there was a massage of some sort that is involved with the flight...where do I sign up?

First of all, we’re talking about an “accidental” public address announcement that caused unnecessary passenger discomfort. That some of the passengers are upset is understandable. If I heard the same announcement as a passenger, it would cause me an anxious moment also. It’s called being human. Flying may be routine for some of us but it is still stressful for others. Not everybody has the same fatalistic view of life. One of the flight crew’s duties includes keeping their passengers informed without unduly alarming them. The Captain will be counseled and the passengers will be compensated. Life will move on. I guarantee the Captain will triple check that PA/Interphone switch from now on and will start using the term “descending” vs. “going-down” no matter who s/he thinks they are talking to.

I'd rather have the plane going down on me than the TSA agent going down on me.
