Ending a long standing dispute over whether public libraries can ban gun carry, the Michigan Supreme Court decided to leave standing the Michigan Court of Appeals decision holding that the Capital Area District Libraries overstepped its authority when it banned open carry.
The decision to not review the lower court buoyed gun rights supporters in Michigan and beyond. Phillip Hofmeister, President of Michigan Open Carry, was “very pleased” with the decision and vowed to defeat any legislative attempts to restrict gun carry rights.
