Red light cameras on right turns discussed -

Rockville City Police disagree and say their strict enforcement is the correct approach.

Unfortunately when you make the argument that red light cameras are OK for slow rolling right turns, they have exposed themselves as it being just a revenue vehicle and not about public safety.

Right turns have the smallest amount of injuries (almost zero in fact) and property damage ... so why should camera tickets even be addressing these minor infraction? Only for da money is why...

Why have cameras at all? Roundabouts achieve the same goal except are better, much much better. So why not roundabouts? Because painting a circle costs about 2 dollars ... where are all the kick backs from that?

Cameras are all about safety? Then right turns should not enter into the picture. Ever.

Whatever painting a circle may or may not cost, constructing a roundabout where there was a preexisting intersection takes money. It's not a matter of just taking a spray can of Krylon and doing a little creative graffiti on the pavement.

That said, yes, roundabouts are superior to most signaled intersections as long as people know how to use them. Twice last month some knucklehead tried to turn left at the roundabout closest to my house because they didn't want to take the long way 'round.

I have yet to experience a roundabout (on any continent) which lives up to its theoretical superiority, for precisely this reason. And that's even when folks do use them in the correct direction.

Round-a-bouts are nothing more than a insurance scam, in cahoots with government, to reduce impact speeds and increase insurance rates. Oh, and a means to keep public sector streets department workers working.

Without going into the roundabout discussion... As you are probably well aware, it was always all about the money, this particular department is just pushing it far enough that it's much less deniable.
