I would hope that any "law abiding" citizen defend TO THE DEATH (towards the aggressor) their NATURAL rights. The more TYRANTS try to oppress others the more I hope the oppressed "put down" those in the wrong.

I totally agree but I would be very careful with that kind of talk. Whatever force used must be lawful and reasonable. Some people know I am extremely vocal and I don't apologise for that one little bit, however different states have different laws and different laws apply to citizens as do law enforcement. Though it has to be said thats part of the problem and I hate the term law enforcement as they were never meant to be that in the first place.

Do you think this is a sign that they're ultimately going to give up on the ban? Otherwise, why keep putting it off?

I honestly think that the council doesn't have the stomach to pass the ban knowing that it will bring long gun carriers (there are at least two who will LG OC if they pass the ban) to their city in greater numbers and more often than in the past. When their own Chief of Police says "OC isn't a problem" and they have people OCing into the council meetings....something they'd never seen before apparently.....they know they've poked a hornets nest and they've also been well informed of the legal limitations of anything they do pass....

In other words, why pass a "ban" that will piss off the extremist activists when the ban doesn't have any teeth, can't be enforced without exposing them to lawsuits, and doesn't apply to anyone that has a CHL or who unloads if they don't have a CHL.

I think they're honestly looking for another way to appease the anti's and the LibertyAshland group is making political hay out of having gotten most (but not all) of the LGA OC'ers to back off......they basically get recognized as "the moderate" gun rights folks as compared to the extremist ones and the Council really doesn't want this hot potato anyway.

They are about to get a warning though.....stop kicking the can or they will see the OC activists return. One of the councilors (at least) considers me on the extreme side and ID'd me to LibertyAshland as "the guy with the UZI at the council meeting".....LOL Not an UZI, just a Wilkinson Arms Linda 9mm pistol with a LONG magazine (30 rounds). Yet he hardly blinks at my FN with 20 or 30 round mags carrying rifle ammo. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.

As for amending it to a bill and passing it on the sly, this is a local city and they can't do that. They must consider the ordinance and either send it back to staff for re write, pass it, kill it, or table it. Tabling would allow them to put it back on the agenda at a later date and not have to start over. The only result we are going to settle for is pass it or kill it.

Pass it and bear the unintended consequences of being the ONLY southern Oregon city with a "ban" thus attracting activists from all of southern Oregon.

Kill it and see fewer guns on the street....their supposed goal......than if they "ban" them.

Hmmmmmmm

Ashland may have their open carry ban back on the table this coming Tuesday the 17th. The agenda should be posted by Friday and then we'll know.

My understanding (I've been out of the loop a bit with finals) is that it is coming back from staff again with a new draft....which would make it a "first reading" if they chose to accept the draft and continue on the path to voting on a completed ordinance. At this point, I have no idea why they are continuing to play with this thing but they are on notice that the activists will are about fed up with the games and will take to their streets if they don't take action one way or the other.

Well, the full text is up and scheduled for "first reading" tomorrow.

I saw Voison this AM rambling on about Ashland's deer problem/deer attacks. This busybody seems to have NO common sense and she's on the verge of getting her way infringing on OUR RIGHTS.

We need to put as many people as we can into the Council meeting on Tuesday. Meeting is at 7pm, Liberty Ashland will be meeting in the park across the street and 1/2 a block to the east of the Council chambers.

I will be there with as many in tow as I can round up.

Let the council know that Ashland will become the Mecca of open carry in Oregon and also that all open carriers will be encouraged do all their purchasing of goods in the neighboring town of Medford. Flood the town with open carriers, but no financial benefit for Ashland.

They've been told. Whether they believe it or not is another matter.

If it's not killed tonight, the OC gloves are off and I fully intend to use my summer off from school to ensure they have "scary guns" on their streets as often as I can be there.....and to bring my friends......and to be VERY visible.

The city council tonight voted 5-1 to support an "objection to consider" the ordinance. That means that they didn't discuss it, didn't have public comments, and simply KILLED IT DEAD. An objection to consider is not even open for discussion among the council. It is a straight and immediate vote.

Only Councilor Voisin, the one who brought the ban to the Council, voted for it and she was PISSED that it died the way it did.

She did not however, have a problem getting her usual open carry escort to her vehicle. Apparently she fails to see the irony and somehow thinks that a uniform and badge somehow makes open carrying a gun "okay".

It's late but video will be up on YouTube tomorrow or the next day.

She teaches critical thinking? I suppose that goes to prove the old adage that "those that can do, those that can't teach". Though another SOU instructor voted YES (to drop it) so I guess it's not a conclusive analogy.
