Now just make it record g-forces and lap times and I'm all set for the next rallye.

This one by Rearview Safety has been around for a while, is cheaper and does the same thing.

I bit the bullet, braced myself, and forked over the $280 for one of these:

Although pricey, I am highly satisfied with the features. I don't see how it works, but it records almost 180 of footage (windshield pillar to windshield pillar) but doesn't appear like it was shot from a "fish eye" lens. It records sound and is able to pivot 180 degrees, as well. This may be handy during a traffic stop, as I can simply reverse it and tilt my mirror (under which I have chosen to mount it) in order to record video and audio of anyone, such as an officer, standing outside my driver's window.

For the price, it also has a cool wireless feature: I can use my smartphone to access its menu where I can save footage being recorded, or select a previously recorded file to save on my phone.

Pricey? Kind of. Worth it? To me, yes.

You can buy the GoPro HDII's for almost nothing these days.

The HD2's are discontinued...Gotta look for them. The 3's are discontinued too but because of the usual GP bugs in the 3+, they haven't dropped much yet.

Check here from time to time or just put in a wanted to buy.

Definitely. I have two Mobius Action Cams in my car which work wonderfully. Pop in a $20 microSD card, and it records 4 or 5 days worth of me driving. Also records audio. The thing is low-profile/discrete as well. My forward facing camera is in front of the rear view mirror; it's black and blends with the rear view, so it's difficult to notice both from inside and outside.

    Price is around $75.

Just curious Ed, do you really consider that "cutting you off?"

I see that it uses WIFI. Can it only connect to your phone, or can the output be streamed straight to a cloud account? It would be a handy to have the data automatically saved to a remote location in case an officer decides "relieve" you of your recording device.
