Washington State listen up.....

There is an upcoming hearing in Judiciary on Jan. 28th at 1:30 p.m. regarding House Bills I-594(anti) & I-591(pro). We need your support by either testifying on behalf of gun rights/2nd amendment or just being physically there. Please come to Olympia as we need as many people there as possible.

Concealed Carry & Open Carry is allowed on the Washington State capitol grounds. See you there !

I hope our speakers do their homework. You know law enforcement is going to be their talking their garbage.

I hope someone asks the question why now, why do we need background checks now, and what is the evidence to support this.

Show the committee that Chicago, New York, and California have background checks, and it doesn't stop crime.

And what about straw purchaser's?

I hope Dave Workman and our leaders have their ducks in a row.

And get their early to sign up to speak.

Last time they only took 5 people from each side, assault weapon ban time.

We should post our statements here, so we can all fine tune them, and make them short and to the point, because they will probably only give you a minute or two.

The NRA says that "wealthy liberal anti-gun extremists" are behind the funding for this initiative, so why doesn't someone find out who these idiots are and show 'em some love? I'm sure there are people who have the time, financial and informational resources and additionally, have a huge pair that might be able to discourage those armed security companies that provide personal protection from taking any further business from these 'tards - and once they aren't able to hide their hypocritical asses behind someone who carries a firearm - make the pro-gun presence known, wherever they might be....

After all, the gay "rights" crowd used the courts to obtain the names of the anti-gay marriage petition signers awhile back so it can't be that hard....

Public hearings will be conducted on Initiatives 591 (pro-gun) and 594 (anti-gun) on 28 January (House Judiciary) and 29 January (Senate Law & Justice). It is critical that as many individuals turn out as possible to attend BOTH of these hearings. A strong turnout sends a strong signal to both the legislature and to the media present of the support for, or opposition to, each of the initiatives. Signs and posters are not allowed inside the buildings, but we will be distributing "Guns Save Lives" stickers to participants. Parking in the vicinity of the Campus is tight, and Olympia loves to give tickets for illegal parking, so car pools are strongly encouraged. http://www.leg.wa.gov/legislature/Pages/Parking.aspx



The House Judiciary Committee will conduct it's hearing on both initiatives at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, in House Hearing Room "A" in the John L. Obrien (House) Office Building. The Senate Law & Justice Committee will hear both initiatives at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Senate Hearing Room "1" in the John A. Cherberg Senate Office Building. Sign-up sheets will likely be posted outside the hearing rooms. Please come early and sign in FOR I-591 and AGAINST I-594.



(And just before I sent this, House Judiciary chair Rep. Laurie Jinkins (D-27) announced she would also hear HB 1561 -- legalizing short-barreled rifles under state law -- in conjunction with her hearing on the initiatives Tuesday afternoon.)



The Secretary of State announced on Wednesday that the count of signatures for I-=594 was completed, and the initiative has sufficient signatures to move forward. The count on I-591 is underway as you read this.



And here is where I alienate some of you on the list. Carry is legal on the Capitol Campus. But both committee chairs have asked that no one OPEN carry in deference to the victims the other side is expected to bring in. I know, and for the most part agree with, the arguments for open carry. But occasionally discretion is the better part of valor. This is NOT the time to push the issue. In fact, the most likely reaction to such activity is a change in the law banning ALL firearms on the Campus. That does no one any good. Please be discrete.



I've merged the "Bill Status" and "GOAL Position" segments to make for easier linking of the two. The GOAL position on a given bill will appear immediately below the bill information.



One new firearm-related bill was filed this week. SB 6245, by Sen. Brian Dansel (R-7) makes technical fixes to the existing law requiring surrender of a CPL held by anyone convicted of certain offenses.



A public hearing will be conducted on SB 6199, a bill restricting the use of incendiary or tracer ammunition and incendiary devices.



I have taken a position to oppose HB 2459 and SB 6039, bills dealing with hunter education training. I support the intent of hunter education training. I was first certified by the State of California as a Hunter Safety instructor in 1973. Hunter education training was developed by the NRA in the 1930s. Hunter Ed instruction is currently conducted by volunteer instructors. But this bill allows the Department of Fish and Wildlife to set a registration fee "of not more than $20" to take the course. Revenues collected shall be used to reimburse volunteer instructors for out-of-pocket expenses and other purposes. I oppose the bills as written because I believe $20 is too high and will evolve into a cash cow for DFW. Instructors deserve to be reimbursed, but a $20 fee for the course may act as a bar to certifying young hunters.

My personal commentary: Heller held that government buildings are presumptively sensitive places. If the Legislature bans all carry even without using metal detectors, the courts will in about a 90 percent likelihood uphold a legislative ban.

If you open carry into the legislature, you will be solely responsible for our unnecessary disarmament in the Capitol. You were warned.

So the way we protect open carry at the capitol is by not open carrying at the capitol?

How long do we need to avoid open carrying at the capitol to save open carrying at the capitol? A year? Two? A decade? A century?

I'm also curious as to what was meant by the "FIREARMS ON THE CAPITOL CAMPUS" item. There was no bill referenced. Is there some legislation submitted for this? We're in a very short session right now...

Please don't be a putz on this issue. A lot of money, time and energy have been spent trying to get an initiative on the ballot that will respond to, and perhaps provide a rational alternative to I-594, and it will be in OUR best interests (your, mine and everyone who carries a firearm openly or concealed) to honor GOAL's request.

I've said this many times; If you want to make a political statement, rent a billboard.

If I may also add since the end point of my previous post seems to have been ignored: the courts will most likely view carrying of a firearm on the Capitol campus as a politically granted privilege rather than any sort of constitutional right. See United States v. Masciandaro.

Dave, I understand the point and I will take it to heart, but what I don't get is how it is very unique. If they are going to ban it, they are probably going to ban it. I'm not going because I'm working graveyard, and I sleep during the day.

Forget the victims, and forget the committee chairs, look at all the people that are not victims because of our gun laws and open carry.

Washington state is one of the safest states in the nation because of OUR GUN LAWS,

And now your just going to forget the last 120 years of state history and let them turn this state into California.

This is "psychologically traumatizing" me to read this.

I work hard to NORMALIZE the daily open carry of well holstered firearms. I understand you all think you are walking on eggshells to OC on Tues/Wed and we should hide our weapons to not scare the victims. Don't do this now so we can do it later is absurd. Discretion is getting us pushed into a closet. Eventually it will get worse and worse and they will take them away to make "us all safer".

I understand your point/fears, and I wll not OC on campus, but I, for one, do not agree.

They are volunteering to be political pawns. They should be able to live with the personal consequences.
