I agree with the poster on the Daily Caller website who suggested that we identify all of the newspapers and their editors who may be engaged in this effort, and create a database of their personal information so that we may respond in kind ... just in case.

Thankfully, it is against the law in Alabama for the sheriffs to release that information. The cite is Code of Alabama, 13A-11-75 and here is the relevant portion:

    (e) The name, address, signature, photograph, and any other personally identifying information collected from an applicant or permittee under this section shall be kept confidential, shall be exempt from disclosure under Section 36-12-40, and may only be used for law enforcement purposes except when a current permittee is charged in any state with a felony involving the use of a pistol. All other information on permits under this section, including information concerning the annual number of applicants, number of permits issued, number of permits denied or revoked, revenue from issuance of permits, and any other fiscal or statistical data otherwise, shall remain public writings subject to public disclosure. Except as provided above, the sheriff of a county shall redact the name, address, signature, photograph, and any other personally identifying information of a permit holder before releasing a copy of a permit for a non-law enforcement purpose. The sheriff may charge one dollar ($1) per copy of any redacted permit record requested other than when requested for law enforcement purposes. To knowingly publish or release to the public in any form any information or records related to the licensing process, or the current validity of any permit, except as authorized in this subsection or in response to a court order or subpoena, is a Class A misdemeanor.

employee of the department may store, maintain, format, sort, or

    (c) Notwithstanding s. 19.35, the department of justice, the

    Ooops!
    Statement from the CEO

Civitas Media never had any plans or intentions of publishing in print or online lists of holders of “conceal and carry” permits. Nor will Civitas Media develop databases of permit holders. A poorly crafted internal memo meant to highlight editorial discussions and planning incorrectly indicated that such a database was being planned; it has been considered and rejected.

UPDATE: Following the publication of this report, Civitas Media announced that it rejected its internal proposal to build a database of concealed carry permit holders. Civitas CEO Michael C. Bush, who declined to comment to The Daily Caller because he was boarding a plane this morning, later said in a statement, “A poorly crafted internal memo meant to highlight editorial discussions and planning incorrectly indicated that such a database was being planned; it has been considered and rejected.”

Yes it looks like they were circulating memos on things they 'were not' planning to do.
All companies do this type of thing - NOT:
-we are not going to build rocketships to Mars
-we are not going to have the company picnic in Hawaii this year
-we are not going to boost circulation by supporting gay marriage
-we are not going to bomb Russia

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2014/01/25...cmp=latestnews

However the memo - contrary to the Executive statements - do not fit the idea of a daydream:
[INDENT]The memo -- sent by a top content editor to various editors at Civitas Media, which owns about 100 newspapers in 11 states, with 1.6 million in total circulation -- laid out a plan for an enterprise project that would use public information requests to establish the database….

...The Jan. 19 memo raised the prospect of a much larger version of a controversial project carried out by in 2012 by a New York state newspaper that included an online map identifying gun owners in two counties by name and address.

The aborted Civitas project would have "examine[d] the explosion of ‘conceal and carry’ gun permits across the U.S.,” wrote Jim Lawitz, Civitas’ director of content, in an e-mail first obtained by the Buckeye Firearms Association.

    /INDENT]

Thanks to the Buckeye Firearms Assn for exposing the schemings of the anti-2A 'newspapermen' that hide behind the 1A when it suits them as they attempt to destroy the republic and its founding ideals.
