Well that's settled then. I guess lock the thread thee has spoken. ;)

No sir, the thread is interesting. And it's important that we do offer constructive criticism.

But I've gotten fed up with the smug, holier-than-thou armchair quarterbacks of late. I've been (sort of) holding my tongue, or responding only to specific accusations, but it's kind of getting ridiculous.

It should stop.

OK, I'm going to say this, and I expect that to be the end of it (although I know better).

<snip>
I suspect the "horn blower is at fault" crowd is peeved at the mechanics of the event described in the op rather than the outcome.

A kid is found to have used lethal force (bustin a cap into a gang bangers azz) within the confines of law in the "Pro-gun state." If the cops ain't too concerned I am not too concerned. But, I repeat myself.

The real point is not the justified SD, but when does he gets his gat back. ;)

Agreed on all counts. The bolded part for emphasis.

Horns are there for a purpose a warning, seems laying the horn in this case was done for here I am don't hit me.

Laying on the horn also alerts other drivers & pedestrians in the area.
If there's a crash, swerve, jump the curb, anyone could be hurt.
Especially nowadays, with pedestrians having their noses stuck to their iPhones & headphones in.

Yes many people use horns after the fact, usually p*ssed off, but alerting the area that something abnormal is happening is a good thing.

Horns? Should not even be one cars .. really.

People hit their horns instead of their BRAKES ...

Wonder how many people have heard the last thing in their life as beeeeep! without any screeech.

# of times I used my horn (other than to attract females) .... zero.

So I reconsider ... leave the horns in .. makes the girls feel good

Uh, no. Hitting the brakes is the first reaction. Often times people don't remember to hit the horn until afterwards for precisely this reason.

Not the first time you've advertised stupidity.

This is my general chain of reactions, especially when driving a commercial vehicle. Rarely do I remember to air horn idiots in four wheelers until after I've completed the process of brake stomping like hell, to avoid sending said idiot to the other side of the interstate.

Here's an instance where a drunk guy killed an OSU sorority sister of a family friend on spring break in Gulf Shores.
Guy did not honk or put on the brakes - just ran her over and kept going - he was drunk.

Want to give credit to administration of OSU - they chartered buses to get the Gamma Phis back to campus due to this happening over spring break. They also chartered 4 buses with police escort to allow students to attend the funeral here in Dallas.

Posted that earlier... this happened on a Saturday they gave him his .38 back on Wednesday...
Which for me was a relief as that meant it was a hands down righteous SD event in the eyes of the law...

and I have to agree with others that if you are so messed up that someone honking at you for blowing a traffic light and nearly causing an accident sets you off to a rage so severe you act out, try to run them off the road and want to kill someone, then you have no right to be out of your padded cell....

Not on topic but this could have been avoided if the Muslim in Chief did his job, made them close the boarder to the illegals, ship them so far south they would never come back and not just let over 68,000 of the criminals loose to go back into our own country!!! :(

I wasn't there, I don't know what the situation was like, the info is already second-hand...but I didn't see anything about the OP's son saying "hey man, my bad" and ignoring the idiot (while dialing 911 and keeping a watchful eye out).

How much horn-blowing did the OP's son do?

Hard to draw any conclusions from this tale. I've never had a road-rager attempt to pull me from my car, been honked at plenty for spacing out behind the wheel, but this kind of escalation seems a bit strange without the OP's son feeding into it in some way...perhaps by waving a gun around?

Guns aren't warnings...they're a last resort. Your brain is your most important tool for self-defense.

Criminals Are strange. Your post was in bad taste IMO. The kid did good. Escalation? The bad guy was a wanted criminal. The criminal saw the gun and proceeded to approach - this means he is both reckless and stupid and does not fear for his life.
Did you even read the original post?
I strongly disagree with you.

just because your experience is one way is NO way to invalidate any one else's actions in their own unique experience.

and gun Are warnings. That's part of why we OC!!

I'd always prefer to only have to warn someone with the gun then have to shoot them. What are you advocating?

I'm disgusted.

Similar event... what was it 2-3 years ago, but it was an Illegal and his GF, managed to snarf a car, went for a drive, drove over several students on a college campus cross walk where the pedestrians had the right of way, never attempted to honk or break just kept on driving after.... :(

I've always been amazed at how angry people can get on the road. I made a decision a long time ago to never use my horn except to announce my presence to a vehicle that is obviously going to hit me... such as another vehicle changing lanes into me. I NEVER hit my horn in anger because I have seen road rage a few times and it's ugly.

Having said that... sounds like a good shoot. Only disturbing part of it is the pigs took the citizens gun and left him defenseless.

Years ago I started listening to audio books whenever I drive. It's amazing how it can put me in such a different state of mind. I just don't react to irate drivers any more.

1. He probably should not announce he had a gun ... the guy could have had one too and used it first.

2. A good outcome so far ... you are wise to advise him to get re-armed.

3. Should probably start wearing a vest too.

1. I never announce my assault. I see this akin to leaning into a punch.
2. One is none, two is one. Always have a backup.
3. Ebay has them for cheap. I even wear one at the range.

I've been away from metro areas for so long that I had no idea of Pious as taxis.
Pious, that is funny. I actually saw a prius with tinted windows the other day. I thought all prius drivers WANTED to be seen.

The BG is the only one responsible for his getting shot he could have just as easily not followed not threatened nor left his car and attacked the other driver.
