"A 9-year-old Boston boy was accidentally shot and killed by his older brother, who has been charged in connection with his death, police said Friday."

The 14-year-old is facing charges that include involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said.

Conley said investigators believe the boy was handling the gun recklessly when it went off and struck his younger brother. There’s no evidence yet that anyone else at the home knew that the boy possessed the firearm, Conley said.

“Part of our investigation in the days to come will be determining how this weapon got into the hands of a 14-year-old,” Conley said

Not accidental?

Actually seems may not be accidental....

On June 22, 2013, there was a report of a juvenile, 13, who “hit the brother and the mother” at “617 Morton Street #2.” The “brother … slapped their … brother … in the face and threw him to the ground,” according to the report. The caller said the suspect “then pushed their mother .... to the ground, began fist fighting her ... and made threats to kill her … the suspect has been very aggressive towards the family lately.” The suspect was placed under arrest.

On May 10, 2013, cops spoke to the mother of the suspect at 617 Morton St. “who stated that her son … had gone missing from a DCF facility in Norwood. Ms. (redacted) stated that the facility had reported the victim missing … with the Norwood Police Department.” The 13-year-old returned home and “she wants him to stay home.”

On April 4, 2013, police responded to a call at “617 Morton Street, Apt. #2” where “officers spoke with (redacted) who was upset” with her son, 13, for smoking in the house. “(Redacted) stated that she is having a hard time with her son in part (due) to the fact that she’s raising him herself.”

The teen will be arraigned as a juvenile tomorrow on charges of involuntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

The question should be, how did he obtain the firearm?

Doing a bit of looking around and it seems the house has been trouble for a long time. So probably from mother's boyfriend or friend. If not couldve gotten it fro his own friend.

"Sources tell WBZ-TV the 14-year-old told police he had taken the clip out of the gun that day and that he didn’t realize there was a bullet left in the chamber.
Police were called to the boys’ home in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood at about 11:30 a.m. Friday and found the wounded boy. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The shooting is thought to be accidental. Police Commissioner William Evans said the older boy panicked and ran away, but was “very remorseful” when police found him later."

And the expected knee jerk anti gun response:

Mayor Marty Walsh said over the weekend a gun buyback program is in the works.
“We need help from the community, we need help from people to let us know where these guns are, who has these gun and who is bringing them in so we can get them off the street,” Walsh said.

In other news, law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year -- or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.

Buy back programs?

Confusing. How do you "buy back" something that was never yours? Freudian slip there?

Boston believes the solution is to remove all firearms from the citizens. It's only "reasonable" the government agents would have the firearms. That matches the description of a police state, doesn't it?

Further, there is some conflict in problem solving. The Detroit Chief of Police, for example, believes more citizens should be armed.

This shooting can be attributed to the backlash of prohibition. I think the OP is the cancer that rots liberty. Appeal to emotion, let your guard down to allow the gun control rhetoric to enter. "It's for the children". I remember growing up, the door to door religion peddlers would drag along small children in the winter as a ploy to get inside and hawk their spiel. Just another rendition of the same old song and dance.
