As of last night (feb. 27 12:00AM) our national police force added more firearms to their "prohibited" list. It won't stop here, it'll stop when they are all on the list.

Unlike our american neighnours, the majority of gun owners won't take a stand for what is theirs.

If you'd like to sign the petition AGAINST this ********, here it is: 68.htmlhttp://www.gopetition.com/petitions/the-rcmp-abuses-c-68.html

The news is starting to make the pro-gun forums here in the states.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=745384

In addition to contacting Canadian pro-gun forums and related sites and organizations. I suggest contacting other pro-gun organizations and forums here in the states so this gets more publicity all around. NRAILA and Gun Owners Of America as well as The Firing Line, Ammoland.com, AR-15.com are good places to post this info. The more publicity this gets, the better it will be.

Your situation in Canada is also getting attention here in the states because of the situation in Connecticut with the new registration requirements for so called 'assault weapons' in that state. And due to the release of a certain letter calling for 'Destroying or Handing Over Mags and Rifles' to the state government. We are still trying to ascertain if that so called letter is real or bogus, but that is another story.

Good Luck to our friends up north.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My one piece of advice: Never let your government make registration mandatory; it leads to confiscation.

Therein lies the problem, you know what the problem is so you should know what I'm going to suggest.

you need a central gun rights lobby group and the gun owning factions need to be brought under one umbrella. hunters who only own bolt action rifles won't understand gun rights as an idea, because virtually no where other then some asian countries are the types of guns they own banned.

you need to promote guns as an idea and not just a tool for a particular sport.

Numbers are power - join together for the common cause. Band together or lose individually.

No registration, no confiscation, no must be on an approved list - nada, zip.

Normally I'd agree with such, but canada is a special case. open carry has been illegal since the 1960s (at least) and is only legal with a specific license in remote areas, concealed carry licenses are second only to Hawaii in that they issue a handful on occasion.

there is no RKBA, the gun rights movement is fractured, alot of Canadian gun owners own guns only for their sports and do not agree with carry for defense or even self defense in the home.

If Canadian gun owners want to improve their rights, they can't just start with the "no compromise gun lobby" position and work from there, there is no political base.

they need to start small. eliminating the long gun registry was the low hanging fruit they were able to grab. they need to effect some smaller changes and start snowballing from there. the first thing to do is get all the gun owners on board before selling US style changes to the canadian public at large. They also need to engage in effective political advocacy and get more pro-gun members of parlamaint elected. and guns are not an issue that gets MPs elected in Canada, so they need to embrace other political issues to get the support of said MPs.

to get gun rights in Canada expanded, there is alot that will need to be done, and any movement that starts out "no compromise" in that environment is doomed to failure before it even starts.

Just a snipet - read the rest

The evolution of Canadian gun control

The federal government has full control and responsibility over gun policies. Unlike the United States, Canada’s Constitution does not give people the right to bear arms, nor does Canada have a pro-gun lobby group on the same scale as the United States' National Rifle Association.

Most recently, Canada saw a long-standing gun law repealed. Bill C-19, Ending of the Long-Gun Registry Act, was introduced, sparking a much heated debate, and was ultimately passed in April 2012. The bill dropped the law that required all non-restricted firearms to be registered and mandated the destruction of all registry records outside of Quebec.

Midwest and EMNofSeattle both offer sound advice. Unfortunately, not having the RKBA protected by a constitution is not to your favor. It seems your best bet would be to reach like-minded people (maybe over the Internet at first) and educate people as you can.

Also, thank you for your advice. Know for certain that it does not fall on deaf ears.
Best of luck to you and your Freedom-loving patriots.
