Friend traveled to Canada.... with his firearm

This guy is a friend of friend. He makes damn good money (sells stuff to convenience stores), he virtually gutted his home and redid the inside by himself, DIYs a lot of projects, overall he is what i thought was a smart guy with common sense. Anyway, i saw this post on the FB this morning.

Thought I'd cross the boarder into Canada today, so I did and barely got back to the U.S. Without being arrested. Turns out that Canada doesn't recognize US gun laws even with a CCP. They don't allow firearms across the border even with a permit so my concealed hand gun almost landed me in jail. I forgot I had it in the car until I was asked. i was detained an hour, went through 2 very detailed vehicle searches a back ground check and escorted right back to the US. So what I thought was going to be a nice little drive across the border turned out to be major pain in the arse.
So now I've been to Canada but really wouldn't recommend the place to anyone.

Btw, radar detectors are illegal in canada and a $500 fine.
I think he is super lucky he got a CBP agent that realized he is just a poor redneck from arkansas lol. You dont "forget" you have your firearm if you go to court for a traffic ticket or go into the post office? The audacity of his post is almost comical to me "turns out canada (yeah, it's a foreign country) doesnt recognize US laws?!!!! shocker........ i wonder if you can travel from colorado to a neighboring state with weed??? you mean they dont recognize CO law?!!

I feel zero pity for him....

One word: Idiot. As a gun owner we should be aware of gun laws to wherever we travel, and the same for car/weed laws. If this happened in Mexico he would be rotting in jail right now instead of posting crap on Facebook.

I would write a letter of complaint to the governor of Canada. Straighten him out.

Wow - he didn't realize that Canada is a completely different country with completely different laws. The 2A doesn't apply in Canada buddy! Sadly, many Americans don't understand this simple fact and Canadians really don't like that we don't.

There seems to be a certain mentality associated with the sentiment. It has led to great influence in books like "The Ugly American", and catchy - though colorful - songs being written:

As gun owners, we should be well-versed in applicable law before we go into an area. I say this only because the antis and over zealous anti-Freedom officials target us for choosing not to be easy targets. Sadly, I've come to fear an encounter with misguided LEO (called in by a lying anti) more than a straightforward encounter with a violent thug.

I carry to defend my loved ones; Desensitizing and educating are secondary & tertiary reasons. Anything else is unintended.

Elect me President and I'll bring our wayward northern neighbors back into the fold. They've been our rogue 51st state since the war of 1812.

FBI agent arrested in Pakistan on weapons charge
    ...

On Tuesday, he appeared in court on charges that he had violated local anti-terrorism laws that prohibit the carrying of weapons or ammunition on a commercial flight.

I'm sure Pakistan will not be so charitable as Canada...

While the gentlemen should have been better informed about our neighbors to the north, it is also true that their laws violate the natural rights of the people who happen to live north of the border.

I travel to Canada a couple times a year I very well make sure I have no ammo in the vehicle and no guns for sure.

A lot of times there is some loose ammo laying around the trk. From hunting target shooting I do a good cleaning every time I go.

No ones perfect and one could forget.

Its a shame that we haven't had a government that hasn't helped are Canada friends with their gun rights and working on trade agreements to help the transportation of firearms between the two.

At least going back to the transportation of firearms between the lower 48 and AK when one only had to declare your handguns have them seal and away you went.

But just the opposite both governments have been actively working against gun rights.

Be careful and aware when traveling to other countries

You do that, David. For additional effect, you should deliver it to him in person while armed...

I called them up and they are hiding the governor in an undisclosed location. Clearly the gov. read my post!
