Oklahoma Legislature Overwhelming Wins One For The GOOD GUYS!

This is an excerpt from an online article in the "Oklahoma Watdog" (an investigative news site covering politics & spotlighting waste, fraud and abuse of taxpayer dollars in Oklahoma City & throughout the state). Fair use applies:
Pro-gun group leads revolt, OK House overrides governor’s veto

"By Patrick B. McGuigan | Oklahoma Watchdog

OKLAHOMA CITY – The state House of Representatives on Wednesday voted, 87-3, to enact a pro-gun measure — one of the 15 House bills Gov. Mary Fallin vetoed Tuesday.

FALLIN OVERRIDE? The Oklahoma House of Representatives voted last night, 87-3, to override Gov. Mary Fallin’s veto of a measure supported by Second Amendment advocates. The state Senate has not yet scheduled an override attempt.

Leading the charge for the override was the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association and founder-president Tim Gillespie. In lockstep with the group, at least on this issue, was the legislative Democrat most likely to oppose Fallin in the November general election.

In an interview with Oklahoma Watchdog, Gillespie said the legislation was certainly not, as the governor said in her veto messages, of “no significant interest” to Oklahomans.

If ultimately enacted over Fallin’s veto, the proposal — which had cleared both chambers of the Legislature almost unanimously (only one opposing vote, in the House) — will allow law-abiding citizens to purchase automatic weapons, silencers and other gun-related devices collectively known as “Nfas,” after securing a federal “tax stamp” allowing ownership.

On final passage just two weeks ago, House Bill 2461, cleared the Senate 46-0. Senate President Pro Temp Brian Bingman, R-Sapulpa, has not said whether he would schedule an override over in the upper chamber."

Granted, it's NOT a colossal win, since most states (that I am familiar with, anyway) do not have laws restricting NFA firearm ownership, so long as the "tax stamp" (read: federal permit) is purchased prior to delivery/pickup. Apparently, OK did have such restrictions. Further details are available @ http://watchdog.org/142114/ok-house-fallin-veto-guns/

Oklahoma is a western state, and their legislature's actions reflects the desires of not only western-state gun owners (Kalifonia being the notable exception), but gun owners nationwide. If we could ALL get this kind of support from our state legislatures on all 2A issues our enumerated Constitutional rights would be much more secure. Pax...

Update: Senate is not considering override of Governor Fallin's vetoes. From the Tulsa World:

OKLAHOMA CITY —— The Oklahoma Senate has no plans to pursue the House's veto override of a gun bill, leaders of the upper chamber said last week.

It was purely political. She vetoed 15 bills, all of which passed with overwhelming support if I recall correctly, because the legislators aren't passing what she wants. Funny thing is, it is against her own party.

Don't know the OK house members, but a lot of times you know the other house won't override the veto, so everyone pile on to say you are so pro-2A when you really might choose differently if it really mattered. Reminds me of the '39 times the House passed bills to repeal Obamacare'.....

Just sounds like more overreach and poor appropriations of tax dollars to pay lawmakers to make more unconstitutional laws, the very constitution they swear to uphold.

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!!!

Any other laws/legislation (beyond the 2A) regarding firearms possession and ownership is an INFRINGEMENT!!

There is a process to amend the constitution and this is not it!

Yes gun ownership/possession is not for everyone but that is a natural God given right that was fought and payed for with the lives of many and reaffirmed by the constitution!!

So if the "law" the " constitution" means nothing and holds no weight then whats the point?!
    Stay safe and God bless.

Oklahoma generally votes in Democrats that are more conservative than most state's Republicans. With Gov. Fallin though, I've alwayse thought something was, Off.

Gov. Mary Fallin explains recent vetoes: 'Progress has stalled' TulsaWorld 4/29/14 lists her reasons, but just because the budget isn't finished yet...
She's just been ALL over the place on Common Core too, and reciently! It's embarrassing.
