Thomas Jefferson’s “Assault Rifle” – The Girardoni Air Rifle

Next time someone tells you they didn't have "assault rifles" back during the Revolutionary War, tell them to take their heads out of their asses!
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. Thomas Jefferson (1776)

If you go into a store, with a gun, and rob it, you have forfeited your right to not get shot - Joe Deters, Hamilton County (Cincinnati) Prosecutor

I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few politicians. - George Mason (father of the Bill of Rights and The Virginia Declaration of Rights)

Excellent weapon. Lewis and Clark carried one during their trek to the Great Northwest. They kept it in a boat and would bring it out and demonstrate it to the locals. The locals did not know how many were in the boat and it was a great deterrent (much like OC today).
"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the people's liberty teeth (and) keystone... the rifle and the pistol are equally indispensable... more than 99% of them by their silence indicate that they are in safe and sane hands. The very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference .When firearms go, all goes, we need them every hour." -- George Washington
