What is the process for getting a LTC in Mass? My daughter wants to apply. She is a resident of Mass.. How do I gift her a handgun being my home state is Pennsylvania? Can she get any semiautomatic handgun just so the magazine capacity is no more than ten?
Meant to respond sooner...
She has to take a state approved safety class. NRA home firearms safety ( 4hrs no shooting) basic pistol (8hrs with range) or a few others.
After she takes class she makes appointment with licensing authority (police department). They put application in (standard app. ). Some require rwfwrences and some PDS require a written letter if you want unrestricted... Which leads to restrictions and licenses....
The law just changed (this month) to get rid of class Bs. So she wants to apply for a class A LTC. That license allows you to carry any legal handgun open or concealed. I say "legal" handgun because there is a list of guns not approved for sale/purchase in MA..
This class allows you to carry large capacity (over 10 RDS so basically all semi auto gunsl or non large capacity handguns (basically revolvers).
The granting authority IF they issue the license at put a restriction on it. For example hunting, sporting, target. If there is a restriction then you can only carry to, from, and during said activity. So.. Example. Target. Good to carry to range at range and from range.
Ltcs are still MAY issue. If they deny you, then she can appeal to the FRB.
As as the gun. Handgun must be shipped FFL in your state to a FFL here in MA. The gun MUST be on.the approved roster or the dealer won't give it to her.
You mentioned the 10rd mag cap. That's only non grandfathered magazines. Also, the gun can ACCEPT more then 10rdw (glock) but it.must be on AGs list and you need a LTC class A. The AGs list does NOT stop you from carrying. O my stops dealer from selling you some guns.
If she needs a class or you have anymore questions PM me.
She honestly WONT have a problem getting her LTC class A and carrying.
