How is virginia not a top 10 gun friendly state?

I've never had any problems carrying or purchasing guns (any kind really). Yet, all rankings out there have Va out of the top 10. I can understand being #6 or whatever but to not make the list seems weird to me.

What restrictions does Va hold us to that we never make the list?

From buying, to open carry, to conceal carry to suppressors and automatic weapons. I'm at a loss...I've never really seen any restrictions on our rights in this state.

one thing might be....

Virginia has outright bans on a few specific firearms (AA12 Streetsweeper, etc.) That, while near meaningless to us, dings the state on paper when they compare laws. Another useless feel good bit of legislation that should go the way of the "one handgun a month" and swirl down the toilet on its way out.

Premption appears good at first glance, but preemption does not apply to state agencies and authorities.

Sadly, one cannot overstate the damage that having an all-Gun Grabbing administration and two gun-grabbing Senators has done. I am certain from published reports that this current situation has taken Virginia off the list for consideration to relocate at least one major firearms manufacturer from the Northeastern United States.

I finally saw the full list of all 50 states (not just the top 10).

We are #21. Their criteria seems solid. I've just never run into any problems buying or carrying so it's sorta shocking to me that 20 states (40%) have it "better than us."

If I were in a sportsbook and had to place bets on it, I would've said 80% chance we were in the top 10 and 100% chance we were in the top 15ish. I would have bet almost everything I own that we were not out of the top 20.

That list is BS...Ga, NC, Fl and a couple more are ahead of us.....Right. I'd say Va is actually around #10.

Just an evaluation by one magazine.

They only have 5 categories therefore there must some weight factor and criteria not seen by us as viewers of the information to further refine the breakdown.

That last word is very telling regarding their evaluation, me thinks.

The criteria is subjective. Don't worry about it. My list is different because things that matter more to me are weighted more.

But look at it this way, it's a good sign overall if a state that is GOOD isn't as high on the list as you thought. It means there are more good states than you expected.

Exactly! As they say if you don't like their results, create your own.

True by someone else's priorities. Your state may slip further down by your own assessment and criteria.

I only care about Virginia Mac.
You should care about all of them. The phrase "Scope Creep" comes to mind for me...what happens in one may leak into another.

Virginia's Rank

As almost everyone has mentioned, different people or groups may rank the States in different order. Recently, I did my own "unprofessional" ranking, and had Virginia around 17 or 18, not 21. Virginia may have been a leader at one time, but let's face it, it has slipped. In my opinion, it is partially due to those OCer's in Virginia exhibiting a somewhat superior view on this forum that "they know best." By telling us what is important and what is not, they overlook the suggestions made by all of us to achieve "Constitutional Carry" based on the wording in the 2nd Amendment. Don't get me wrong; we should all be indebted to those in Virginia who have done so much for the cause. But as in politics, the office seems to change the person more than the other way around.
