Looks like a nice pistol.

Bullet weight/type
Velocity
Energy
185 gr (12.0 g) JHP 1,425 ft/s (434 m/s) 834 ft•lbf (1,131 J)
230 gr (15 g) JHP 1,250 ft/s (380 m/s) 798 ft•lbf (1,082 J)
230 gr (15 g) FMJ 1,250 ft/s (380 m/s) 798 ft•lbf (1,082 J)
255 gr (16.5 g) Bonded Core HP 1,100 ft/s (340 m/s) 685 ft•lbf (929 J)
Test barrel length: 5.5 in

The .460 Rowland is a proprietary cartridge intended to attain .44 Remington Magnum level performance with a M1911-pattern semi-automatic

Interesting Ballistics but a couple hundred fps below 44 mag velocity's in each bullet weight doesn't bring to 44 mag level of performance .

In my 44 red hawks surpassing the above velocities isn't that hard to do.

After shooting and seeing some bears shot with a 315 gr WFN hard cast at around 1280fps and getting many feet of penetration . One 250lb bear shot in the chest exited right ham for over 4 feet of penetration.

Just a couple weeks ago I saw a 350lb blk bear killed with a frontal shot with the 315gr load one witness stated that bear just jelloed at the shot.

I shoot the same bullet out of my light Taurus tracker at 1100 fps the 1280 load is a bit much for that light of pistol.

A 255gr cast at 1100 is just a nice practice load out of my 44s.

A good 44 mag revolver is hard to beat.

Easy with a Ruger .45 Colt revolver, though :p

My new favorite this last year has been my S&W 625 loaded with .45 Super, though. Instant change between .45 ACP or .45 Super, the latter can easily be loaded in Super or AutoRim brass. Often, you just don't need to be too magnumish.

Based on my research, CORBON's numbers are a bit on the tame side as far as factory loads go. The numbers from the Underwood Ammo rounds I have ordered are:

230gr JHP 1,373 fps/963 ft.lbs energy (Underwood claims 1,400 fps.)
185gr BJHP 1,582 fps/1,028 ft.lbs. energy (Underwood claims 1,575 fps.)
255gr HCFN (Underwood claims 1,300 fps.)*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhGM0hhsGEg

That's more like the 44 Magnum.

*I don't have the ballistics for the 255gr hard cast flat nosers on hand, but I have them saved. I'll edit. The penetration is sick though.

I'll also be able to shoot .45 Super and .45 ACP :)

Without changing springs?

I have no issue using my reloads or factory 45super, but factory 45acp fmj will not cycle in my guns with the 26lb spring installed.

Springfield 1911 longslide (6"bbl), XDM tactical, Glock 21 w/ 6" bbbl & slide.

My edc burb load is a 160gr Barnes TAC-XP @ 1350fps from a 5"bbl

Sooo...I've been somewhat obsessing over the Sig Sauer Emperor Scorpion the past couple days now. It's basically the Scorpion with different color grips and a different trigger, and all black controls - as far as I can tell. Also the finish is FDE Nitron instead of Cerakote on the Scorpion. Is this a downgrade? Either way... I have not seen one of these converted to .460 Rowland yet, so I'm considering being the first. The Emperor Scorpion seems just a bit more rare than the Scorpion. A tad more expensive, but I just got a raise at work and am playing with house money in the form of fantasy baseball winnings, so... thoughts?

Best price I've seen - from several sources - is $999.00 + $30.00 shipping. All in all, not a bad price for a well made 1911.

Imho, Buffalo Bore is the best after Underwood for 460Rowland.
Midway has 460Rowland in stock.

http://www.midwayusa.com/find?userSearchQuery=460+rowland

Iirc, Georgia Arms also sells 460Rowland for abit less for those that don't reload.

I have yet to kill anything with 460Rowland other than a few yotes and one cooperhead.

Bazooka brothers makes an AR upper for 460Rowland.

Thanks! I've considered Buffalo Bore, but I figure I better get the hottest loads if I'm paying top dollar. If you don't mind me asking, where was the kill shot on the 'yotes and from what distance, and can you describe the damage? Also what bullets were you shooting?

BOO HOOO none of my 1911's will work with the 460 conversion kits :uhoh:

Sounds like a great excuse for a new weapon! :D

Which 1911s do you own?

That's what I'm finding as well. The Scorpion is a little lower at $800 + shipping, probably because it's more common, not sure. The Emperor Scorpion is Nitron instead of Cerakote, so I'm trying to research to see if there's a significant enough difference to favor one over the other in terms of longevity. I'm pretty much decided that I like the features of the Emperor Scorpion a little better. There's nothing about it that I don't like better.

That trigger is beautiful! And although I do like the grips on the Scorpion, the ES is just so sleek...not quite as flashy. More my style :dude:

Oh yeah, my conversion kit from Clark Custom Guns arrived today :D

Under 50yrds, head shot and double lung, neither bullet was recovered.
255gr HC from Underwood. http://www.underwoodammo.com/460Rowland255grainghcfnboxof20.aspx which happens to be in stock.
The firearms was Springfield Armory longslide.

My EDC is either SA limited 45 super or a G20 (10mm) or G21 45super..
My Coonan's have been set aside for the kids.

Sounds like things are coming together.

Hopefully sooner than later...just waiting on CBS Fantasy Baseball to cut me a dang check! I should have had it by now.

Perfect. 255 gr HCFN is one of the rounds I have ordered from Underwood. Good to see positive experience with it. Sounds like I'll get plenty of use out of all three of the 255gr, 230gr, and 200gr.

Someday I will also own a S&W 1026 or a 1006 (10mm). I don't think I'll ever be able to kick my original love for 10mm. I really don't like Glocks, but the G29 with a G20 mag/grip extension and extended barrel turns me on a little bit too.
