    96 truck stop robbery- Winchester.

I'm sure most are familiar that this place was robbed earlier this week. The suspect has died after taking 1 bullet through a lung and the other into his face/head. After he was shot by the truck stops owner, he fled on foot for several hundred feet before collapsing onto the ground. I believe he was shot with a .40 cal but I can not confirm this. The fact that he suffered mortal wounds and was still able to flee (and could have fired back) several hundred feet, and lived a week later is something note worthy.

Excellent take on the story, self preservation. When people get wrapped around the axle about the virtues of various handgun calibers I remind them that, as a whole, most all make fair-to-poor fight stoppers.

That's why it drives me crazy when people get on the illogical "1 shot, 1 kill" mentality. I've seen (personally) a lot of times when a person is shot, even in cases like this where it is a mortal wound, and they are still able to continue to attack. The fact that this place is literally walking distance from my work and I have eaten lunch at this truck stop more than once, this shooting hits a little closer to home for me.

As stated by others, handguns are not man-stoppers, and many a person that has received a lethal wound can function for a period of time.

But reading the many many instances of people shooting robbers, home invaders, etc., they turn once someone shoots at them, even if they are not hit. Locally a woman stopped a home invasion with a single round of 22lr rat-shot to the guys gut. He very quickly decided he had made a bad choice in victims.

The ones where you have to break their body to the point it is impossible for them to continue (sever their spine, and a few other more gruesome wounds) are the ones strung out on drugs. The ones the cops taser with little or no effect and fight with superhuman strength. These people will fight with such effort they exceed their bodies capacity and die from the exertion.

In most states at least as all 100 shots are in the front of their body, and they still pose a threat. Many states, mine included, the justification to use deadly force ends when the BG turns to run, collapses from their wounds, or verbally surrenders.

Verbally surrenders??? So a bad guy can keep shooting and a good guy can't legally shoot him back as long as the bad guy is yelling "I give up" the whole time? What if the bad guy collapses from his wounds, but is still able to shoot back?

If the BG is still shooting he has not withdrawn...even if he is moving away from you.

I suppose one can be right and still be in prison.
