The Chapman Survey on American Fears. What Americans fear most.

Crime (a.k.a. the sky is falling and the Boogeyman is chasing me)
    http://blogs.chapman.edu/wilkinson/2...is-chasing-me/

Despite evidence to the contrary, Americans do not feel like the United States is becoming a safer place. We asked a random sample of Americans how they think the prevalence of several crimes today, compare to twenty years ago. In all cases, the majority of respondents and for the majority of crimes, respondents are pessimistic.

    What Americans Fear Most

    Fear Factors
    http://blogs.chapman.edu/wilkinson/2...people-afraid/

First Fear Factor, "A Low Education

Having a lower level of education, particularly having only a high school diploma/GED or less, was the most consistent predictor of fear. People with lower levels of education exhibit significantly higher levels of fear regarding:
    • Personal safety
    • Their future (running out of money, getting sick, etc)
    • Internet usage (identity theft, being stalked, etc)
    • Criminal victimization
    • Phobias (heights, clowns, blood, etc)
    • Government (Obamacare, gun control, etc)
    • Immigration (immigrants cause crime, bring disease, etc)
    • Natural Disasters (asteroid, volcanoes, earthquakes, etc)
    • Man-made disasters (wars, terrorist attacks, etc)

    Second Fear Factor, "Talk TV

Watching television talk shows with frequency proved to be strongly related to fear. It is a simple, straight-line effect – the more one watches talk TV, the more fearful one tends to be. Given the nature of our survey we cannot say with certainty whether people turn to talk TV because they are afraid or whether people have become afraid from watching talk TV, but the association is clear and powerful.

Third Fear Factor, "True Crime TV

Television has become inundated with true crime television shows, ranging from popular prime-time programs such as Dateline NBC and 20/20 to entire networks devoted to programming about crime and criminals. The more one watches true crime TV, the higher the levels of fear of:

I think most people are well aware crime is down. I also think most people are well aware that relaxed gun laws are at least partly responsible. Finally, I think most people are aware of the libs' gun control efforts which, if successful, will put us at risk for an increase in violent crime, the same as what occurred in the U.K.

Good observation. Progressivism being the political bowel movement to make-things-better - ahhh! - and leave US Country Class to suffer the unintended consequences. The Ruling Party is all progressive, R, D, and liars.

    "What Americans fear most"?

    Their own shadow.

American's are controlled by fear, and TPTB utilize that to great effect.

Scare them and they will do whatever they are directed to.

I assume the Chapman Survey is just a modified Weaver Survey?
