Pros & Cons - Mark Schauer vs. Rick Snyder

I so want to get Rick Snyder out of office for his veto of the bill eliminating gun free zones but.....

Who is Mark Schauer and what is his present position on guns? I think he had B ratings from NRA and MCRGO at one time, what are his current ratings?

I am after results. If Snyder gets re-elected, I don't expect him to feel like he has to sign any pro-gun legislation (much less push the legislature to pass any). On the other hand, if Snyder gets booted, maybe the republicans in the legislature will get the message and work to pass some pro-gun bills that maybe, just maybe, Mark Schauer will sign.

    What do you think?

votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/12023/mark-schauer/37/guns#.VFO50PnF868 Here. Looks like he hasnt voted on any kind of gun bill in a few years, so who knows. There again, I dont vouch for the accuracy of this information either. lol

The problem is, gun owner rights arent the only consideration when voting. So much more to take into account, like roads, education, jobs etc. Cant vote for or against based on one issue.

Edit: I have no time for coding issues. Stupid webz. Going to have to copy/paste the link.

For me it comes down to a overly simplistic decision, Are we as a State in a better place now or 4 years ago and which candidate puts us in the best position 4 years from now? I also agree that we should not vote on one subject.
    My reasons to OC
    1. to raise awareness of the legality of open carry in Michigan
    2. To raise awareness that good people carry guns
    3. A deterrent to people so that I won't be targeted
    4. Because it's more comfortable than CC in most situations
    5. Because I can and want to
    6. Because it's perfectly legal
    7. Self defense

Pros & Cons - Mark Schauer vs. Rick Snyder

It has been pointed out several times by our political savvy folks here that, (R) state house & state senate will almost NEVER, over ride a (R) governors veto. So electing a (D) governor with no power, will in theory make it easier to get pro 2A bills passed into law. I've seen the bad side of this practice in both MI & AZ who have (R) controlled legislatures and governors offices. Great bills get passed by both houses and are vetoed by RHINO governors.

Take away the RhIno's & the legislatures have no excuses left. They either pass bills that back up their pro 2A talk or be seen for what they are....

    Food for thought, I hope.

I am thinking that the same dynamic may be in play here. As strangely counter-intuitive as it may seem, having complete republican control of the legislature and governor's office may result in paralysis in Lansing . . . there being no incentive to do anything controversial. I don't like Snyder based solely on his veto of the bill that would have ended gun-free zones in Michigan.

The sole reason I do not like about him is his forcing enough garbage into the bill that many people here didn't want to see it signed. As to the Senate over riding Schauer that MIGHT happen, if it doesn't then we would be screwed

I have voting issues that I am not willing to bend on ... so I think it is acceptable to have an actual trait that is measurable and to use it as a guide in our decision making processes.

Of course, the OP could vote simply based on height...there are no laws that your choice has to be rational.

Well history should be a indicator of some sorts how things can work for or against us by voting along party lines in MI. One of the best AG in MI for the pro 2A folks was no other than Jennifer Granholm (D). One of our worst governors to date has been Rick Snyder (R). So simply towing the party line is NOT always the best thing for US IMHO. Politics is chess with a bunch of cheaters @ the table. The checkers only crowd is easy duped..... Voting for tricky Ricky & expecting him to do anything other than what he has in the past is the very definition of....

I do not know that RINO Rick hurt gun owners, SB59 would have added red tape and extra hoops to exercise a right AND would have adversely effected OCers. He did not help us but he did not hurt us. If I were to vote just on the one subject ie guns, I would likely vote for the libertarian candidate, however I vote on the condition of the state as a whole.

My point in the forest missed for the trees being in the way is: he has shown us that he does not support pro 2A legislation. Judge him on his other faults or successes as you see fit. The issue the OP wanted was PROs & CONs & he certainly is getting them. Side note - to your earlier post. A legislation is far more likely to over ride a veto from a lame duck governor than a sitting member of their own party. Don't take my word for it. Look it up.

More likely yes, sure thing no. I do not think the Republicans in the State have the balls to pass a truly pro gun bill. let alone over-ride the veto on said bill. Maybe we will find out however.

Saw this posted on FB for what it's worth

He chose Brian Calley, a strong Christian conservative, as his Lt. Governor running mate.
He chose Dick Posthumus, another Christian conservative leader, to head up his legislative team as Legislative Director.
He did not sign the annual "Gay Pride Month" Proclamation that was signed by Governor Jennifer Granholm for the previous eight years.
He signed the ban on Partial Birth Abortion in 2011, which had been vetoed numerous times by Governor Jennifer Granholm.
He signed the Right to Life bill in 2012 imposing restrictions on abortion clinics and physicians.
He appointed Brian Zahra and David Viviano, two strong "rule of law" Judges, to the Michigan Supreme Court.
He signed a bill lifting the cap on charter schools in Michigan in 2011.
He signed the Right to Work bill into law in 2012, which most people deemed impossible.
He advocated for Israel's right to exist and for greater rights for women in Muslim countries.

and he publicly accepted a bribe from Michael Bloomberg, and has refused to disclose the people / corporations that paid bribes into his slush fund. Yeah, I trust Snyder (to support his corporate sponsors)....

    Schauer's worse....

Snyder may not be super pro 2A, but voting for a Democrat isn't going to fix that either. Having his party buddies draft and pass some laws that turn gun owners into felons is a pretty big deal, so I hope if Snyder should lose that at least Republicans retain the majority in the house & senate.

As for every other issue both of them feed us a lot of crap anyway. My union endorses only Democrats and tries to convince the entire plant to vote Democrat, they recently raised our dues to supplement their income and political activities without the workers' permission, so voting R is kinda my way of telling the union to bugger off.
