Beloit police home inspections for unknown, illegal and altered guns.

Beloit Police are introducing a new initiative in an attempt to curb the city's violence problem. Police are offering to make home visits to help citizens locate guns in their house. Police Chief Norman Jacobs says often times, people aren't aware they might have guns in their house.

Beloit police would be happy to search your house for misplaced guns. Just ask!

"Gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus is being represented in the media, and we should fight it using the tools that we've learned from our health providers," Police Chief Norm Jacobs

Chief Norm Jacobs might do better to search for missing criminals.

BTW - none of my guns are violent.

Maybe they will ask the kiddies in school if their parents or mommies' baby daddy has guns, and if so where do they keep them??

I wonder how "People often aren't aware that they have illegal drugs such as meth or cocaine in their homes. We're offering a free service to come in and look for such things in people's homes" would be received.

Asked on a news call-in show, the response was, "They're too smart."

This is voluntary? I hope that none of the gun owners let them in. I think they want jails to be overflowing with people which means more money flowing into state/city coffers. I bet they are going to tack charges at every home where they find guns. The next step will be mandatory inspection and then registration. I don't think we are dumbos who don't know that there are guns in our homes! Are there no criminals to go after! I bet all/most homes have guns and home owners know they have them!!

Well, they will be when a crooked cop points to the bag of coke he tossed in the crib ... then take their house way...give 'em a break though and won't charge them with anything.

    Welcome to Amerika !

Hence my notice of trespass ... stops all this silly behavior.

Even my Glocks are not violent! When a friend shouted at them to magically attack him, they all responded "I von't, I von't!" Gen 2s & Gen3s of course.

Kidding aside. The Chief is either a moron, or a shyster, or possibly both IMHO.

Interesting, any idea why there is such a wide discrepancy?
    [edit]
"...The Beloit Police Department consists of 72 sworn and 21 non-sworn personnel. There also are 7 reserve/auxiliary volunteers..." per their FaceBook page. That puts about 10-12 on the streets at any one time.

Well it's good to see they are willing to tie up so many of their few officers, to accomplish ... nothing of any importance. The population of this town should sleep well. Off Sarcasm.

The discrepancy is obvious. The super moderator's link opened information for the TOWN of Beloit not the CITY of Beloit.

Beloit Police Ask Residents To Volunteer To Have Their Homes Searched For Guns

Chief Of Police Says He Hopes Initiative Can Help Residents Begin Thinking Differently About Guns

    By Gilman Halsted

    Updated:

    Friday, December 5, 2014, 9:14pm

Police in Beloit are launching a new effort to reduce gun violence in which they're asking city residents to volunteer to have police search their homes for guns.

Police Chief Norm Jacobs said he doesn't expect the phone to be ringing off the hook with requests for police to search their homes. He nevertheless hopes the program will encourage people to think about gun violence as an infectious disease like Ebola, and a home inspection like a vaccine to help build up the city's immune system.

"Gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus is being represented in the media, and we should fight it using the tools that we've learned from our health providers,” he said.

Jacobs said he hopes some searches will result in the discovery of guns they didn't know were in their own homes. He said that there’s also a chance they’ll find guns linked to crimes.

“That's really what we're looking for,” he said. “Maybe we'll find a toy gun that's been altered by a youngster in the house — and we know the tragedies that can occur there on occasion.”
