A man in his 50s was loading an SKS rifle with a clip of .762 caliber ammo.

> The gun was on a table and horizontal to ground, not pointed at anyone.

> As the slide was pulled back and released, the weapon discharged.

> The man handling the gun sustained a hand injury
A 14-year-old boy was injured when a gun accidentally discharged at Target World, police say.

The police were called for reports of a shooting but after interviews with witnesses, officials said the gun accidentally discharged when the owner was in the process of loading it.

Sharonville Police cite "weapon malfunction" as the cause.

"Our initial investigation reveals a shell exploded inside the chamber of the weapon, which released shrapnel or bullet fragments and part of the shell casing out of the weapon and struck the child's leg and the injured the adult's hand," said Sharonville Lt. John Cook

^^^^^^ you a funny man!!!^^^

they showed a 7.62 x 39 steel case cartridge, standard ammo for SKS , blown out the side.

Their was NO primer strike!!

What looks like the main strike appears at the 5 o'clock position ofn the rim. However, there is something that could be a primer strike just on the edge of the primer at 11 o'clock.

Waiting patiently to see if anything further is reported.

stay safe.

Sort of kicked this story around at OFCC's forums and with other friends. Our current best guess is that there was a round chambered (with the gun other wise empty), a new magazine was inserted, and the bolt was sent forward by the shooter. The round in the chamber (not the gnarfled one pictured on news sites) was set off by the bullet of the round being stripped from the top of the magazine. That round (the one pictured) was thus detonated and went to pieces while the chamber was mostly open.

Just a theory.
