OUr local areas are getting these things left and right. A friend of mine supported it calling "just a truck" to anyone who opposed these MRAPs. This deputy changed his mind, he no longer thinks its "just a truck".

The money quote:Sounds like a 1984 style re-education if you ask me. This is what political correctness gets us. Those that are not constitutionalists, but are murderous criminals call themselves constitutionalists and the sheriff’s department lets it stick. Islamists who engage in Islam are called radicals, not Islamists. And Socialists and Communists are called Democrats. Let’s clear up our definitions, shall we?

Don't forget that Fascists, National Socialists, and, members of the Westboro Baptist Church; are called Republicans.

I don't see any need to be worried about MRAPs going to assorted police departments, fire departments, Homeland Security, ATF, FBI, the Department of Sanitation or even the Humane Society...they're no big deal. In some sort of "conflict" they wouldn't survive too long and they'd be few in numbers -- so don't worry about them.

I wouldn't mind having one myself though, or a Bradley Fighting Vehicle...but really, I'd prefer an M1 tank.

Just as a "Collector's Item" of course, but still fully functional and stocked with ammo. ;-)

Or, the Feds could just give me the $$$$$$$ just ONE of those vehicles cost new -- I'd be set for life. Well, what's left of it at my age! :)

Well sure if it actually came down to armed battles they might not. Yet the militarization, intimidation is there.

I'd like you to have one too, but the average citizen cant afford to spend several thousand dollars.

Stock up on paint.

sudden valley gunner,

Well, while people often are impressed by psychological intimidation, no one is physically HURT until the intimidation turns physical (as in verbal assault escalating to physical assault). It's kind of like combat where lots of explosions, shrapnel & bullets are whizzing all around -- it's just noise and no one gets maimed/killed by noise -- so no danger really UNTIL they get hit, as only HITS count.

But really, if "stuff happened" and "patriots" needed to "respond" to pesky MRAPs, we could just start making and awarding these again (see attached image) -- no problem.

Toaster Strudel, ja?

Heia! Heia safari...

Still leaves the fact they are military offensive vehicles that the public can't afford.

We don't have to afford them (police departments can't afford them either), that's why I wanted the Feds to "gift" one to me. I mean what's the better situation: An American getting a hold of one those or giving them to our cowardly "allies" (who hate us really) in the Middle East who then quickly abandon them and run? Then ISIS gets them -- LOTS of them -- to use against us if we go back. I HOPE Obama and the Joint Chiefs of Staff* aren't THAT stupid to go BACK there (but they may be).

Besides, we don't have to afford MRAPs because if "stuff happens" they will come to us, free -- curbside service. Doesn't get any better than that, does it? Stuff delivered to your doorstep, free? ;-)

And do you think the police (et all) are trained in military tactics on how to USE them effectively in the first place? Of course not.

I think the concern about a "militarized police force" -- or even Homeland Security -- is WAY overblown. But maybe you'd have to be a combat vet to see that.

за Родину!

P.S. Why the PAINT? Should I paint mine white with the black initials UN on it, or what? I already have my intimidating blue helmet. And with some leftover blue paint, I can go William Wallace to be even more intimidating, yes? ;-)

*BTW, they sound TODAY just like they were back in the Vietnam days, saying how great everything is going -- how all that training of Iraqis and Afghanis is WORKING (NO IT ISN'T, NEVER WAS). What deluded yes-men (to the also naïve & clueless President) the Chiefs of Staff are. And were then. More Robert McNamaras. And more pusillanimous pussyfooters.

I'd rather have nattering nabobs of negativism.

Oh, okay. Sorry I missed that.

I'd be thinking more along the lines of a Molotov Tequila Sunrise (when I lived in El Paso), or in my case presently, a Molotov Colorado Bulldog. ;-)
