Lawyer behind Marathon County armored vehicle case disbarred. MRAP collects civil jud

The Wausau lawyer for a man who challenged the use of an armored police vehicle to enforce a civil judgment against him has been disbarred. The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Wednesday revoked Ryan Lister's license practice law in the state after he was found by a referee to have engaged in nearly three dozen counts of professional misconduct. None of his offenses, however, were related to Lister's representation of Roger Hoeppner, whose arrest last fall by Marathon County sheriff's deputies in para-military gear and accompanied by an armored vehicle got national attention.

Most lawyers are guilty of misconduct .... its just conduct that approved....I consider it misconduct when you present an argument that you know has no merit.

I personally know the town officials there, and the news reports painted a very negative picture. Most failed to say how Roger Hoeppner had physically threatened them with bodily harm. He had 4 years to clean up his property and had agreed in court to pay $500 a day until he cleaned it up. Just look at his CCAP record: http://wcca.wicourts.gov/pager.do;js...Direction=DESC

    From the non-functional link:

Rather, the violations "range from conversion of client funds to having engaged in an impermissible sexual relationship with a client. Attorney Lister habitually refused to cooperate with the (Office of Lawyer Regulation) , failed to keep clients reasonably informed, and has breached client confidences," the Supreme Court' found in its decision.

"Moreover, as the referee observed, this proceeding is the latest in 'a disturbing pattern of misconduct that has extended over many years.'"

Lister (Wisconsin, '76) was admitted to practice in 1976. He received a public reprimand from the court in 1986, a five-month suspension in 2007, and a 60 day suspension in 2010, according to Wednesday's decision.

In addition to taking Lister's law license, the court ordered him to ray $8,548 restitution and more than $28,000 to cover the costs of the OLR prosecution of his ethics violations.
    stay safe.
