Heart warming story of a Second Chance out of San Antonio

This goes to show that our "system" does believe in second chances for those who make silly "mistakes". The FACT that he survived the standoff with SWAT is another glowing example of "Brotherly Love"

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio Police officer accused of holding his wife at gunpoint and engaging in a standoff with fellow officers in 2013 has accepted a plea deal that reduces felony charges to misdemeanor disorderly conduct - display of a firearm.

Daniel Lopez, 45, was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of deadly conduct.

Police got a call around 11:30 p.m. on July 4 for a shooting at Lopez's Southwest Side house in the 100 block of Whitecliff Drive, then-SAPD Chief William McManus said at the time.

When officers arrived, they learned that Lopez had pulled a gun and pointed it at his wife but never fired, McManus said, adding that there were two children inside at the time.

SWAT negotiators were called to the scene and streets in the area were blocked off for a short time. Lopez eventually gave himself up peacefully, McManus said.

    No one was injured.

On Monday, Lopez accepted a plea deal for a Class C misdemeanor instead of second-degree felony aggravated assault, which could have carried a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

He will pay a $200 fine and serve one day of deferred adjudication probation, according to prosecutor Jim Wheat, chief of the district attorney's special crimes unit.

Wheat said Lopez’s wife, the sole witness in the case, altered her story, leaving little choice but to reduce the charges.

Lopez was placed on administrative leave after the incident, authorities said at the time.

Whether he is reinstated is now up the department, Wheat said.

“We’re aware of the state of the current case and are weighing all the facts in considering administrative action,” said SAPD spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar in a statement Thursday.

Lopez had served 11 years on the force prior to the incident.

Yes he will be keeping his job and enforcing the law once again.

Presume you are familiar with rules #6 & #9 which clearly show violations.

You make the point that a LEO was involved and no indication of OC, yet say "simply points out" - locked, again.

Adding to all of that we have an alledged situation and a wife that changes her testimony.

More than a little knee jerk reaction to make a very questionable point.
