    Unicorn sighting - Fallon

    Walmart, around 1:05 pm.

    Checkout lane 6.

    Male, mid 30's, approx 6', approx 190 lbs., short dark hair, plaid flannel shirt.

    OCing a 1911 in a dark colored snap retention holster, Condition 3.

    I wouldn't say the practice is extremely common here in Fallon, but it isn't extremely rare either.

    Condition 3 is a dangerous way to carry. You will never get the drop on anyone without one in the chamber. Condition 3 is for home shotgun defense and long gun transportation IMHO

    How does one conclude condition 3 by observation?

    Condition 3 The chamber is empty and hammer is down with a charged magazine in the gun.

    Note that many military services are taught this method.

    IMHO, a 1911 should be carried at a minimum of condition 1, were it not for potential legal ramifications, I likely would carry in condition 0. I find the manual safety to be unnecessarily redundant.
