Would it be because alcohol is served in this establishment? The business is called Dirty Frank's. It's a beer and hotdogs joint. I've done zero research and was just curious.

It could be an old sign - until a few years ago (2011 I think) it was illegal to carry a concealed handgun into an establishment that sold alcohol by the drink. That has since been changed, but not all businesses would necessarily know that.

Today you can carry, openly or concealed, into an establishment that sells alcohol by the drink as long as you have a concealed handgun license, and as long as they do not post otherwise.

In effect, it's just a standard gunbuster sign. It takes the language from the governmental gunbuster signs, and if you look closely, you can see the reference to R.C. 2923.1212 a the bottom.

Legally, it requires compliance pursuant to R.C. 2923.126(C)(3)(a). However, it doesn't show much thought, and it may be one of those signs that was posted because someone (falsely) told the business owner, "You need to put this sign on your door, or you could get sued and lose everything you own!" Those are the posted premises that will sometimes yield to a little bit of truth and social pressure.

Feel free to contact them, but Dirty Frank's put up that sign shortly after one of our open carry events at the Statehouse.
