Whole Foods -Highland Park - GFZ

Just noticed the big new signs at Whole Foods on Lomo Alto & Lemmon. Will need to drop off a No 2A - No $ card on the store manager next time I drive by.

In NC its the same, alot of obama supporting anti-American socialists. I will throw this wrench into it. They can deny service to a gun carrier, but every other business MUST serve the gays and lesbians even if against what they believe. ?? Not trying to bash anyone, but pretty clear to me.

The language on the sign seems to apply to law enforcement with concealed weapons also. Am I missing something?

Don't get me wrong here but this kind of crap from both sides has just been making me laugh of late. When the heck did business owners lose their right to refuse service as they see fit. If they discriminate based on religion, sexual preference, LAC carrying a defensive weapon, then I say let them. They don't need and wont get my money. They make it clear enough to the public their policies and they will eventually go out of business via lawful boycott.

Why do we need more laws telling business public/private how to do their business? Just a thought.

Apparently even someone planning to commit a robbery will have to leave their gun outside as well .....

Highland Park cops are typically seen talking w the Service Manager at the front of the store, while hippie-patrons in parking lot are being hit-up by vagrants on route down Lemmon avenue.

I don't think anyone is saying we should prohibit them from prohibiting us.. In fact, OP mentioned taking cards to manager that explains that he simply won't be shopping there due to their policy, which is basically what you're advocating (and I agree with the both of you on that.)

I agree that businesses should be able to associate freely with who they choose. I think wethepeople was just pointing out that our law actually denies our right to free association, if the desired association (or lack thereof) is based on certain characteristics.

My non-guaranteed opinion that isn't legal advice:
In English, sure, but legally, no, I don't think so.

Legally speaking, the only portion that really carries legal weight for CHL holders is the portion in red, which is the text required by law to prohibit CHL holders from carrying concealed on the property.

You could maybe argue that the portion in blue legally prohibits the carry of non-handgun firearms onto the property or beyond the sign. I don't know what the law or case law is on that particular issue..

The portion in black, I think, is factually incorrect. I'm assuming that what it is referencing is the section of code imposed on businesses with alcohol licenses that requires them to post a sign with text similar to that on the sign shown in the OP, but there is actually no law which prohibits the possession of a firearm on such properties. Actually what happens, is that the TABC attempts to overstep their lawful authority to prohibit firearms on such properties by forcing the businesses to prohibit by policy firearms on the property. While there is no law prohibiting a person from entering the property licensed to sell alcohol with a firearm, if the business knowingly allows that person to enter the property with a firearm they're subject to having their license revoked. Thus, as mentioned, the TABC is forcing businesses to enact policies which the TABC has no authority to enact themselves via the law.

Went by today and spoke to the Manager. Whole Foods corporate policy is to ban guns from all their stores, except LEO. Store opens at 7am, so I asked her about the store security - the off-duty HP police start their shift at 10am She was all smiley until I gave her the 'no 2A, no cash card'...

Went to one lately. Store is not very good and quite expensive. The local places and farmers markets are way better. They had a no gun sign but I walked right in as signs carry no weight in Florida.
“If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind? ” -Bastiat

I don't "need" to openly carry a handgun or own an "assault weapon" any more than Rosa Parks needed a seat on the bus.
